Summary

Supporting the Biddeford Community

Peer Support Specialists provide one-on-one support to people in the community, at their homes, and/or at the location where the peer supporter works. Peer Support Specialists also provide group facilitation in various topics related to the setting in which they work, including topics such as wellness, recovery, boundaries, self-esteem, healthy relationships, etc.

Position Highlights:

  • Base hourly rate: $19.53

What you will do:

  • Create an authentic secure space to discuss hard topics and thoughts so each person can learn about themselves without fear of negative or coercive responses.
  • Develop positive strategies that will help each person to better support their mental health.
  • Build and practice healthy relationship skills, so each person can create stronger natural support networks that allow them to participate fully in a happy life, work, and community.
  • Develop training materials and provide education to the peer supporter’s multidisciplinary team, and the larger organization.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and track outreach efforts
  • Develop Peer Support relationships with individuals in service
  • Help carry out outreach and engagement activities
  • Track and attend medical/mental health appointments.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) – “What you will need”:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • License/Certifications: Completion of, or ability to complete, the relevant training to the position is required*. Valid Driving license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience: Experience providing one-on-one and/or group facilitation peer support is preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends when needed.

 

* This may be the State of Maine Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) Certification. Provisional CIPSS Certification may be required within 9 months of hire date. If CIPSS is required, the ability to maintain certification will be required (meet co-reflection and continuing education requirements). Ability to provide support according to the values and principles of the training is required. Employment will be contingent on the above certification guidelines.
