Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Certified Professional Coder that is self-motivated, energetic, and a take charge individual. This highly visible position reports directly to the Coding Manager. Qualified candidates will have the option to work remotely after training.

Responsibilities include: Review, abstract, and code clinical data such as diseases, operations, procedures and therapies into computer system for billing and data collection within the establish time frame, assigns appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS  and modifiers to accurately report, advises supervisor and clinicians of deficiencies to support charge capture of all billing services, keep abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement requirement. Maintain insurance, authorization and incident-to knowledge for physician visits and procedures. Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association or American Academy of Professional Coders and adheres to official coding guidelines.


Successful applicants must have the following:
  1. Certified professional coder with 3 years' experience, professional coding. 
  2. Billing, inpatient, and follow-up experience is a plus.
  3. Certification as a CPC or CPC-A by the American Academy of Professional Coders or the American Health Information Management Association.
  4. Completion of ICD-10 course and successful completion of proficiency exam.
  5. Minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience coding utilizing the ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS and modifier coding systems.
  6. Knowledge of electronic medical records systems.
  7. Demonstrate independent initiative, ability to budget time and organizational skills.
  8. Demonstrate attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  9. Actively always demonstrates teamwork.
  10. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  11. Knowledge and/or experience in a health care setting a plus.
  12. Knowledge of third-party payer reimbursement policies and procedures a plus.
  13. Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
