Weed and Pest Trait Discovery Lead/Hemipteran Discovery Lead

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Weed & Pest Trait Discovery Lead/Hemipteran Discovery Lead, are to:

  • Be responsible for leading strategy focused on the discovery of new modes of action for all biotechnology weed and insect control products;
  • Provide strategic leadership to a team of Trait Discovery Leads responsible for discovering next generation products for control of lepidopteran, hemipteran, and coleopteran pests, as well as herbicide tolerance across row crops;
  • Provide strategic leadership of cross functional research efforts across diverse functional teams to discover the first hemipteran control biotech trait across row crops;
  • Contribute to the strategic directions of the organization as a member of the Trait Discovery and Testing Leadership team as well as the Insect Control Leadership Team;
  • Work closely with partners in Prospecting and Intellectual Property to understand the external landscape for Weed & Pest traits, to evaluate potential partnership opportunities and the competitive landscape;
  • Interact and work with cross functional leaders in R&D, commercial, stewardship and regulatory to drive the discovery of biotechnology weed and insect control traits;
  • Drive global cross functional relationships and collaborations to develop truly integrated solutions for the future of weed and pest control across biotechnology, small molecules, and biologics;
  • Provide recommendations to senior R&D leadership to drive decisions on indication strategy and project advancements;
  • Foster and grow relationships with scientific organizations, industry groups, external collaborators, and other likeminded organizations;
  • Ensure financial management including budget forecasting, cost management, capital planning and expenditure;
  • Attract and develop talent and serve as a mentor for peers or colleagues in key areas of expertise that support personal development.

Required Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree;
  • Recognized expert in one or more of the following areas: entomology, protein biochemistry, pest control, molecular biology, or related fields;
  • Demonstrated record of technical leadership through the publication of peer reviewed papers and/or patents;
  • Strong strategy, innovation, collaboration, and business acumen skills;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to demonstrate diplomacy in working with diverse scientific groups;
  • Strong leadership skills including ability to lead by influence;
  • Ability to work across functions and geographies;
  • Ability to build and utilize a wide and strong network across the company and externally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. with minimum 6 years relevant experience in research and development, project management, or functional team management; OR
  • M.S. with minimum 8 years relevant experience in research and development, project management, or functional team management;
  • Recognized expert in hemipteran insect biology.

Relocation may be offered for this role.
