Job Description
R&T Senior Analytical Chemist
Albemarle Corporation is currently seeking a Senior Analytical Chemist to work within the Research and Technology Group of the Bromine Global Business Unit. The analytical chemistry team provides world class analytical support to all GBU technical activities including new product development; chemical manufacturing process development and improvement; applications and customer technical support for existing products and regulatory stewardship. The ideal candidate would possess a strong ability to solve structural and quantitative chemical problems using variety of analytical techniques. Familiarity in other spectroscopic and analytical techniques is preferred.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership in ICPMS and to support R&D activities directed towards the identification, development, and commercialization of new products, and to support chemical process development and customer technical services.
Design and implement analytical studies and methods to solve chemical and process problems
Apply XRF, XRD, SEM/EDS and ICPMS characterization to variety of materials (solids, liquids, gases, polymers) for structural and quantitative studies.
Interpret analytical data and communicate methods and results to colleagues and project teams in written reports and oral presentations
Guide the maintenance and operation of instruments in the Microscopy and Elemental laboratories.
Provide training and consultation to chemists, technicians, and engineers.
Maintain excellence in safety, health, and environmental practices
Requirements
Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with at least 5 years, or BS with 10 years total experience
5 years of industrial experience.
Good understanding of the fundamentals of X-rays, Microscopy, Thermal Analysis and ICPMS.
Strong strategic thinking and analytical problem-solving skills
Self-motivated and able to balance individual and team responsibilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team environment
Desired
Hands-on experience in ICPMS and Thermal techniques a plus
Demonstrated project organization, planning, execution, and time management skills
Strong interest in challenges of industrial analytical chemistry for a wide range of products
Familiarity with other spectroscopic and analytical techniques
