Job Description

Geosyntec is seeking an experienced Site Manager - Earthwork, Geosynthetics, and Utility Construction in for our geo-environmental practice in Mobile, Alabama, where you will serve as an integral part of our team ensuring our projects are completed safely and successfully. You should have technical understanding and experience with construction quality assurance for various earthwork, geosynthetics, and utility construction projects. You should be able to develop and follow soil sampling programs including identifying soils based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), execute field density and moisture testing, compaction, fill placement, soil structure, and recording data and reporting associated with fill placement. You should have experience observing the installation and field testing of various geosynthetic materials and have an overall understanding of civil earthworks construction, concrete, and pipe installation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform contractor and subcontractor oversight to ensure completion of the work in accordance with technical specifications, construction drawings, and work plans;
  • Develop and organize daily inspection and testing activities for yourself and junior personnel;
  • Prepare daily field reports, weekly field reports, and progress reports;
  • Ensure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures and maintain project files and database in organized and structured manner to facilitate future reporting and certification;
  • Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers, and clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;
  • Effectively communicate proposed contractor and subcontractor progress, out of scope work, work deficiencies, design modifications, and other critical project communication to the Engineer-of-Record or Project Manager in both oral and written form in a timely and professional manner;
  • Observe and review contractors' construction quality control (CQC) procedures including material submittals and manufacturers' quality control (MQC) documents for completeness and compliance;
  • Maintain time and production records, analyze construction schedules and critical path management (CPM), and monitor construction progress; and
  • Implement and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans (HASP) and the company's Health and Safety policies and procedures.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, radiation safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 100 %
  • Overnight travel: Up to 10%

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of eight (8) years of applicable experience; or Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college and a minimum of six (6) years of applicable experience; or a Bachelor's degree in science, construction management, engineering, physical science, environmental science, or related subjects and a minimum of four (4) years of applicable experience; or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position.   • Technical understanding of site investigation, construction quality assurance, and/or construction management procedures for solid waste facility or environmental remediation projects. (required)
  • Ability to monitor several different types of construction and environmental activities simultaneously. (required)
  • Previous project management background and knowledge of CPM software. (preferred).
  • Experience with Windows based software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.). (required)
  • Excellent writing skills and detail orientation. (required)
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
  • Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or craw. (required)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated, and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
  • A U.S. valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
