Role Description
The Project Manager is to provide project management leadership for front-end engineering design, define and detailed design phases, construction, and commissioning and start-up. He/she is responsible for planning, leading, and managing all engineering activities associated with a capital project. The Project Manager integrates the total engineering effort over the total project life from inception to commercial operation. The Project Manager is a member of the Project Leadership Team and is accountable to the Project Director for project engineering success and for engineering functional excellence and competency.
The Capital Project Manager, in alignment with Albemarle's Project Process (APP), is responsible for execution of front-end engineering design, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning & startup. This includes execution of procedures such as management of change (MOC), HSE, CSR and pre safety start up review (PSSR). He/she also develops proposals in collaboration with operations, process engineering and discipline representatives. In addition, the Capital Projects Manager will assist with mechanical start-up plans and procedures, support training and assure technical documentation and knowledge transfer.
The Project Manager reports to the Engineering Director, Capital Projects.
Responsibilities
Leads and manages Project Team(s). He/she gives direction and establishes clear expectations
Establishes and manages effective communications within the Integrated Project Team to ensure alignment among business and project objectives and the Design Basis
Provides interface between the Project Leadership Team and the Business Unit Steering Team
Conduct periodic team leadership meetings, document discussions with resulting action items list and due dates
Develops project personnel roles and responsibilities definitions, and ensures each functional team member understands their role and deliverable(s)
Manage and support completion of associated with Albemarle Project Process (APP) deliverables (stage gate review and approval process)
Support and lead (as necessary) all gatekeeping reviews and ensures all front-end (basic engineering) development deliverables are met for ISBL and OSBL.
Support Lessons Learned program based on industry experience and best practices
Assist in developing scopes of work and request for proposal packages for engineering work
Assist in resolving issues with vendors, evaluating bids, and developing procurement strategies
Support negotiations with key contractors and vendors as needed
Monitors third party engineering contractors to ensure quality engineering and decision making for: scheduled deliverables, and management within budget
Ensures independent or corporate resources for project quality assurance processes and execution with respect to engineering, procurement and construction activities
Travel to monitor engineering contractor activities and field construction progress
Leads safety, including setting expectations and being visible in the field
Support the Project Director regarding overall project controls, including expenditures and schedule to meet business expectations
Accountable for integrated engineering design and procurement schedule
Collaborate with Project Controls and management in reviewing financial data for projects on a regular basis to identify and address trends, challenges, and opportunities
Review and provide guidance on project changes and controls associated cost within the approved budget amounts per the established project "no-change" policy (Change Management Process)
Support ongoing planning definition process, specifically through establishing milestone targets, effective deadline management and resource allocations
Drives capital project work processes and practices

Working knowledge of construction labor planning
Working knowledge of engineering design tools - 3D CAD, Caesar II, etc.
Working knowledge of materials management, procurement, receiving, warehousing, etc.
Knowledge of construction safety requirements and measurements
Working knowledge of Microsoft products such as Access, Excel, Word, and Project
Familiarity with commercially available plant design products such as Autodesk's AutoCAD, Intergraph PDS, Bentley Micro-station, etc.
Working knowledge of Primavera and SAP (PM/PS modules)

Requirements
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, or other equivalent engineering discipline
Minimum (10) ten years direct experience in the specialty chemicals, petrochemical, or chemical industry with at least (8) eight years of direct project management experience
Previous experience managing (start to finish) Brownfield and/or Greenfield projects (up to $50MM USD)
Must have experience managing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors.
Experienced in supporting Quality Management programs.
