Student Intern, Structural Engineering

This position is a temporary, full-time student internship working 35-40 hours a week (estimated dates May-August 2023).

Position Highlights:

Stewart's structural practice extends across North and South Carolina and the southeast working on great projects across the region. We are one unified practice organized into teams. If you are interested in the field of Structural Engineering and are looking to gain valuable experience and growth opportunities that will help catapult your career after graduation, this position may be the perfect fit for you! As a Student Intern in Structural Engineering you will have exposure to actual design projects in an interdisciplinary firm. By working within our structural engineering practice, you will understand how structural engineering works hand-in-hand with architecture, civil engineering, and landscape architecture. You will work side-by-side with our professional structural engineers and BIM technicians on a variety of project types, ranging from simple to high-profile and complex public and private projects.

Position Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be part of a world-class structural engineering team, bringing high-quality engineering to life for our amazing clients. This position will expose you to most aspects of structural engineering, including design and analysis of building components of foundation and framing systems. You will perform design and drafting on projects using your skills in design and modeling software. Your excellent communication skills will be put to good use, as you will be coordinating and collaborating with a variety of professionals.

Position Qualifications:

  • Completed Sophomore year or higher in an ABET accredited civil engineering, structural engineering, or architectural engineering degree program.
  • Knowledge of Revit
  • Knowledge of the Bluebeam and/or Abode PDF software

  • Commitment to diversity of thought, contributing new ideas and perspectives while also respecting different points of view.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for an employment-based visa.
  • Valid driver's License preferred as some travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to work in a professional, climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels and exposure to lots of light, both natural and artificial. Workstations are in an open space layout with frequent collaboration and interactions from co-workers throughout the day. Within the office you are willing and able to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/scanner, and computer printer. You are willing and able to make site visits on construction sites, accompanied by our staff, which includes walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders, or riding in a mechanical lift.
