Job Description

This position serves as the subject matter expert on the selection and design of Lithium-specific process equipment, which primarily supports our Pyrometallurgy and Hydrometallurgy processes. The main mission is selection of equipment to meet project objectives. This involves working collaboratively with project teams, discipline design leads, plant site teams and supplier partners to ensure new equipment is specified, designed and installed properly.

Responsibilities:

  • Selection of different types of rotating equipment associated with the mining industry or solids processing such as kilns, calciners, hammer mills, rotary dryers, centrifuges, mixers, dump elevators, conveyors, as well as chemical processing equipment such as pumps, agitators, compressors, blowers, etc., to meet project objectives.

  • Work in a safe manner and promote safety in all aspects of work responsibilities, including safety in design and operation of equipment.

  • Provide training and knowledge sharing of best practices throughout the company.

  • Collaborate with capital project teams on the design specification and testing of new equipment.

  • Develop and improve our engineering standards, specifications, and data sheets for Lithium-related rotating equipment based on past and current experiences.

  • Be the point person for drawing and equipment reviews for applicable rotating equipment on capital projects throughout the company.

  • Consult on testing requirements and ITP reviews to identify key areas of concern during equipment procurement.

  • Participation/acceptance of FAT of critical process equipment.

  • Provide recommendation in specifying seal designs, vibration and power monitoring, and pump sizing-efficiency points.

  • Manage multiple sub-projects with varied priorities.

  • Provide field engineering support, including installation and start-up of critical equipment, as well as inspection and overhaul during shut downs.

  • Continuous focus on learning and self-improvement and stay abreast of new technologies that could benefit the corporation.

Requirements:

Essential Qualifications:

  • 8 years or more of process equipment selection, design, maintenance, and reliability engineering experience in the Mining and Chemical processing industry.

  • Proven experience with detailed aspects of process equipment design, operation, maintenance, and preventative maintenance, along with knowledge of associated industry best practices.

  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment aspects such as bearings, shafts, seals, alignment, vibration analysis, lubrication, seal flushes, pulsation dampeners, and associated software, instrumentation and hardware for condition monitoring

  • Working knowledge of applicable process equipment standards

  • Proven expertise in mechanical sealing systems for rotating equipment, troubleshooting, and improvements

  • Ability to work in a team environment to drive work scope to completion to meet asset reliability improvements, cost improvements, and OEE improvement targets and schedule

  • Independent self-starter with results-oriented focus and a curious mindset for improving assets and systems.

  • Proven ability in problem solving and multi-tasking

  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written,

  • Ability to travel to Albemarle's sites, and related fabricator's facilities - estimated travel up to 25%

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experienced working in different countries and cultures.

  • Proficient in most common software packages such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Autodesk Inventor, and SAP

  • Member of related professional organizations for mechanical engineering or asset reliability management, such as ASME or SMRP, or local country equivalent organizations

Education:

BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university program or equivalent
