We're looking for a Senior Solid Waste Engineer with at least 8 years of experience to join our geoenvironmental and geotechnical practice in Baton Rouge, LA. You will apply your engineering to projects involving landfills, transfer stations, surface impoundments, geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, solid waste planning, and other solid waste management systems while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec's culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you'd work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks.

Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Client development and expansion of Geosyntec's landfill engineering capabilities in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
  • Assisting in the development of proposals and other business development activities.
  • Civil design, landfill design, stormwater design, and site layout.
  • Engineering analyses such as slope stability, hydrologic and landfill gas modeling, seismic, and seepage.
  • Preparation of permit applications, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications.
  • Fieldwork associated with investigation, design, and construction services.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to solid waste.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants
  • Fieldwork: Up to 20%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 20%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering. (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration or the ability to obtain P.E. registration within 1 year, in Alabama, Louisiana, and/or Mississippi. (required)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 8 years (10+ preferred) of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Demonstrated strong interest in solid waste. (required)
  • Proven track record in client development and management. (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as AutoCAD Civil3D, fate transport modeling, Slope/W, Vadose/W, Sigma/W, and ARCGIS. (preferred)
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
