As a Project Water Resources Engineer or Scientist in Tallahassee, Florida, you will work on complex projects involving innovative stormwater management and natural surface water systems, including NPDES permitting support, hydrologic/hydraulic analyses/studies, water quality assessments and restoration efforts, surface water, watershed, and stormwater runoff monitoring/modeling, and Clean Water Act regulatory support. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and report to ATM's Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) clients and other municipal clients in Florida;
  • Ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholder;
  • Provide analyses, documents, and reports in the areas of NPDES permitting, total maximum daily loads (TMDLs), basin management action plans (BMAPs), reasonable assurance plans (RAPs), other water quality restoration plans, impaired water assessments, and water quality data analyses;
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies on permitting and water quality-related issues;
  • Advocate for clients with regulatory agencies and at public meetings;
  • Develop training materials to further compliance with NPDES and other regulatory programs;
  • Develop, maintain, and update municipal separate storm sewer (MS4) permit compliance guidance and reporting documents;
  • Manage complex project budgets;
  • Manage large datasets;
  • Interact with client representatives;
  • Scope, perform, manage, and deliver multiple concurrent project assignments at both task and project-levels;
  • Consistent with our sell-manage-do business model, play a role supporting lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring; and
  • Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.

Based on your current level of experience, you may be asked to take on task-level or project management responsibilities, along with business development, and staff mentoring tasks.

  • Training: This position requires defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants. Additionally, training may be provided in the area of stormwater inspection, operation, and maintenance.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 10%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 20%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering, natural resources science, with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline (required)
  • Advanced degree in environmental or civil engineering or natural resources science, with emphasis on water resources or closely related discipline (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E., P.G. CPESC, CPSWG) (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 7 years of research or related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience (required)
  • Understanding of NPDES MS4 and other NPDES permit programs and associated regulations (required)
  • Experience/knowledge in stormwater systems and stormwater best management practices (BMPs) (required)
  • Experience/knowledge relative to water quality and responses of surface waters to pollutant loading (required)
  • Experience/knowledge of stormwater event sampling and data analyses (preferred)
  • Competence using geographic information systems (GIS) (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel (required)
