Job Description
General Statement of Duties:

This position will develop, coordinate, and deliver health education programming in community for children and adults about human and ecological health including, but not limited to, summer camp, after school, school day programs, public family programs, and education through SSCHC inter-departmental collaborations. This position works in partnership with internal partners and external partners including schools, government, and other community-based organizations and works in a variety of settings. Additionally, this position supports other initiatives and programs in the Department of Environmental Health & Community Wellness.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Develop, coordinate, and deliver health education programming consistent with SSCHC, stakeholder, and funder expectations.  Responsibilities will include:
  • Identification and development of new community- and school- based opportunities to deliver educational information and programming to communities served by SSCHC
  • Recruitment of new participants (individuals and groups) to be engaged in health education programming activities
  • Development and delivery of educational programming regarding human health, nutrition, physical activity, leadership, environmental health, ecology, and/or social issues, to the general public, key public and private sector organizations, and SSCHC’s client population
  • Coordination of indoor or outdoor educational/recreational activities with diverse client groups that promote community stewardship of Milwaukee’s south side
  • Support the SSCHC School Clinic model
  • Track materials, supplies, and contractual budgets for associated projects to ensure responsible spending of program budgets
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of DEH&CW programming as needed
  • Collection and maintenance of data used to evaluate program effectiveness
  1. Collaborate with interagency staff to develop educational programming to support the physical and mental health of SSCHC patients and the community
  2. Coordinate program logistics between a number of internal and external stakeholder and partners.
  3. Collaborate with other staff, project partners and advisory groups to advance the objectives of DEH&CW
  4. Cultivate and maintain relationships with key public, private and nonprofit sector individuals and groups who support urban environmental programs
  5. Assist in identifying and developing grant proposals and draft grant reports
  6. Develop and deliver presentations and lessons to agency staff and community groups as needed
  7. Participate in the Department’s public information dissemination through creating flyers and other media to promote events, and create written publications and oral presentations as needed
  8. Perform other departmental duties and responsibilities as needed and under the direction and supervision of the Department’s Director

Qualifications:
  1. Excellent oral and written communications skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills required
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in a health, education, environmental science or related field, preferred
  3. Experience designing and leading health and/or environmental education programs
  4. Demonstrated ability to deliver formal and informal education to individuals and groups
  5. Ability to relate well to people of various ages and from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  6. Working knowledge of the social and cultural factors associated with the delivery of health care and social services in a culturally diverse community
  7. Available to facilitate some evening and weekend activities and events
  8. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  9. Ability to maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, regular use of a car, current auto insurance and ability to travel to community events located in the Milwaukee area
