Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Construction Safety Manager, are to:

  • Ensure Capex projects are legal and company requirements fulfilled, during planning phases, including execution phase;
  • Prepare and align HSE-plan with all main stakeholders: project, production, and site;
  • Coordinate and supervise a portion of the construction execution for capital projects for pharmaceutical, consumer health orcrop protection manufacturing facilities in the Americas Region, based on a defined scope, to a detail project or through definitions made atthe place where the execution is performed;
  • Coordinate and supervise the execution of third-party services;
  • Develop execution models to assure all project objectives including safety, technical correctness, constructability, maintainability, and operability are met;
  • Manage systems and personnel to maximize productivity, safety, cost effectiveness, and schedule compliance of contractor personnel scope (global, regional, local and Regional Americas;
  • Manage the construction and specialty contractor needs of all users of such labor and services across an assigned plant site and/or project;
  • Implement proper controls and monitoring onsite quality performance of Construction Supervisors andsubcontractors;
  • Provide leadership, develops, and assures training for the management of safety processes that assure safe contractors are selected and retained for use on assigned work, all contractor personnel are informed of the site and unit safety requirements and that all parties comply with same;
  • Manage Construction Site personnel to assure compliance project engineering standards;
  • Ensure that all projects utilize Bayer global and regional standards and knowledge documents and comply with internal and country regulations;
  • Ensure project documentation is properly transferred to owners and stake holders as required;
  • Prepare and align HSE-plan and a construction site-/ shutdown-safety-manual;
  • Elaborate an HSE-audit plan;
  • Define and align all required safety measures;
  • Provide accountability for safety meetings;
  • Work closely with E&T departments: specifically with project managers and construction managers;
  • Provide technical assistance and a presence in the field during commissioning activities as needed;
  • Report to unit head of business planning;
  • Provide frequent contact with HSE, production and contractors from the site and division;
  • Work closely with E&T safety people;
  • Provide frequent external contact with construction service companies, if necessary, direct communication with authorities;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree: nine years' experience in field
  • Master of Science (MS) degree: four years' experience in field
  • Doctorial (PhD) degree: two years experience in field

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree: Engineering/Technology or equivalent;
  • Good knowledge of safety systems documentation;
  • Knowledge of safety requirements from manufacturing and OSHA perspectives;
  • Good knowledge in providing field support and participating in check out, commissioning, and start-up;
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills to deal with people at various levels of organization;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Flexibility to travel to various locations;
  • General understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements and responsibilities;
  • Preferred (but not required) Proficiency: Civil, Construction Management or Construction Engineering Technology or equivalent;
  • Experience managing large construction and capital improvement projects are required;
  • Experience in oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, power generation or heavy industry is preferred;
  • Secondary language: Spanish, Portuguese;
