Job Description
We are conducting a search for a rare & exceptional person in this pursuit of excellence! The National Institute for Culinary and Hospitality Education (NICHE) aims to set new standards of exquisite food and service in Kansas. Quick Glance of Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Maintains high standards of excellence for professionalism.
  2. Ensure food made and served meets the highest quality standards and is served in a timely manner.
  3. Designs menus as well as plating presentations, including creation of new recipes for menu updates in line with emerging trends in the industry.
  4. Handles preparation and operation of onsite restaurant, functions and catering.
  5. Manages schedule of events to ensure team is designated, coordinated and execution of events are flawless for the college as well as any/all business partners.
  6. Recruit and train staff to prepare and cook all the menu items.
  7. Coordinates with purchasing and procurement practices, with respect to the purchasing of all equipment and/or supplies of the facility.
  8. Communicates with vendors or suppliers as needed as well as various personnel within the college across all hierarchy levels.
  9. Enforcing best practices for safety and sanitation in the kitchen complying with all regulations.
  10. Incorporating feedback from restaurant staff and patrons to make improvements or resolve issues.
  11. Provides culinary support to the teaching and learning environment.
  12. Coordinates with existing security, technology and facilities departments to maintain a clean, safe and functional environment within the facility.
  13. Limited teaching on an as needed basis as part of the position.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills Needed:
  • Associates degree in Culinary Arts or related field, required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of formal education and industry experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position, required.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory agencies and rules, regulations, and other laws applicable to the culinary/hospitality industry.
  • Current ServSafe Manager’s Certificate required.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
  • Exceptional standards for cleanliness, health, and safety.
  • In depth knowledge of food principles & best practices.
  • Experience managing inventories and stocktaking.
  • Available to work on-call, shifts, after hours, over weekends, and on holidays.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills – must be able to work with students, technical and administrative personnel in a pleasant, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and leadership qualities.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.


Pay Rate: $55,000-65,000 /yr (BOE)
Schedule: Typically M-F 8a-5p (as needed evenings/weekends for events); NICHE Campus
