Job Description

UDR Consulting Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for a Certified Health Physicist opportunity to support the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) located 26 miles southeast of Carlsbad, NM.

WIPP is the nation's only permanent nuclear waste repository for defense-generated transuranic (TRU) waste generated from DOE sites across the country. Waste is permanently isolated over 2,000 feet underground in deep salt beds.

Per diem is available for those who qualify.

Job Description

  • Plan, manage, and provide technical support on radiological environmental projects.
  • Develop and implement radiological controls for operations and environmental projects.
  • Develop and manage the implementation of characterization plans such as MARSSIM Final Status Surveys; evaluate characterization data against relevant screening and clean-up criteria; and prepare reports documenting the process and results.
  • Support Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (HTRW) projects in identifying and developing compliance approaches with environmental regulatory requirements, including federal and state radiological regulations, RCRA, and CERCLA.
  • Identification and classification of radioactive, hazardous, and mixed wastes and contaminated material, and determining appropriate management and disposition methods.
  • Interface with clients and regulators.

Minimum Requirements

  • US Citizen Required
  • Accreditation by the American Board of Health Physics (Certified Health Physicist)
  • Degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, geology, chemistry or other relevant field.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and executing MARSSIM-based characterization and final status surveys.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years working experience demonstrating professional knowledge, thorough understanding, and applied practical experience of federal and state radiological regulations and guidance such as DOE, Army and other DoD, NRC, and Agreement States.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years working experience with USACE, DoD, or DOE radiological and HTRW investigations, studies, designs, and remediation projects, including preparation of relevant project plans.
  • Physical ability to work on hazardous and radiological work sites during characterization and remediation.
  • Ability to complete and maintain relevant training, including HAZWOPER Supervisor.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management level experience in environmental restoration or HTRW work.
  • Experience with application of federal and state environmental regulations such as RCRA, CERCLA, and the Superfund Amendments & Reauthorization Act (SARA).
  • Familiarity with radiological and hazardous materials transportation.
  • Membership in a professional environmental organization.
