Job Description

Albemarle is seeking a Hydroprocessing Technical Service Specialist to support our Catalysts business. This position will be based at our Houston/Clear Lake, Texas office.


In this position, the Hydroprocessing Technical Service Specialist is the primary technical point of contact for selected key customers. You will support your technical colleagues, sales and business departments with your technical knowledge and will assist them to identify business opportunities as well as maintain the quality and consistency of all technical information provided to customers. You will establish relationships with refineries to provide solutions to their hydroprocessing needs, to discuss and review technical proposals and solve technical problems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working together with technical sales in the preparation and execution of negotiation plans.

  • Assisting the business in identifying technical needs and in defining marketing strategy.

  • Preparing and presenting technical offers to our customers.

  • Maintaining technical quality and consistency of all technical information provided to customers.

  • Performing technical services, such as unit monitoring and troubleshooting.

  • Travel 25% to 30% in North America.

Education and Experience:

  • Academic working and thinking level (preferably in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry).

  • 7-10 years of experience in at least one of the following disciplines: 1) Research & Development; 2) Refining (operations and / or technical support) with emphasis on experience related to operation in Hydroprocessing units or 3) Technical Sales. Experience in troubleshooting and/or in an internal expert role are preferred.

  • Experience with, or potential for, leadership - exhibit people management skills.

  • An inquiring, flexible, and service-minded attitude.

  • Strong communication skills: an eye for consultation, listening, and being able to respond clearly and with arguments.

  • Analytical thinking ability and solution-oriented thinking: showing creativity and initiative in solving technical (improvement) issues.

  • Team focus through an active contribution to a joint result.

  • A strong mix of technical and commercial skills is required to be successful.

  • Very good English skills, both written and spoken. Other language skills are welcome.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.

  • Self-motivating.
