Job Description

Northwest Farm Credit Services is in search of an Accountant (internally known as High Risk Loan Accountant) to join our High Risk Accounting Team in our Spokane Headquarters location. This full-time, exempt position reports to the High Risk Accounting Manager, and is part of a specialized division that provides centralized support for all functions relating to the analysis, monitoring and loan accounting operations of the organization's portfolios.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team to perform progressively complex accounting services for the organization's loan and lease portfolio, to ensure proper accounting treatment for customer accounting and the organization's financial statement reporting.
  • Responsible for the corresponding loan and general ledger entries, and reconciling assigned general ledger accounts, researching and correcting outages in accordance with legal documents, policy and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Work closely with customer-facing teams to provide technical advice on loan terms, structure, pricing, and other attributes for accurate customer billing and servicing, and organizational financial reporting.
  • Perform daily and monthly report monitoring to ensure loan terms and key data elements are accurate in accordance with guidelines under accounting standards, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Review loan documents and credit agreements for accuracy and consistency to the loan accounting and general ledger systems.
  • Communicate with stakeholders including Troubled Debt Restructure Committee (internal), and commercial banks and Farm Credit entities nationwide, regarding accounting activities to ensure compliance.
  • Perform daily and monthly report monitoring to ensure loan terms and key data elements are accurate in accordance with guidelines under accounting standards, regulations, and organizational policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and G/L systems.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proactive approach to deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and timely, sound solutions for internal/external requests
  • Ability to problem solve through effective use of procedures and understanding of systems, reporting internal controls and loan accounting
