Study Hall/Saturday Academy Teacher - Credentialed Applicant Pool -UAS 1165 Upward Bound Program
Salary Range: $28.00 - $40.00/ hourly depending on qualifications and experience.
Work Schedule: Tuesday - Thursday, 3:00-5:00 pm, Saturday: 8:00 am-11:30 am. This is a part-time non- exempt position. This position is not eligible for benefits. This is a temporary appointment ending on or before August 31, 2023, with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon the availability of funds.
Overview: Service two high schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (Garfield High and Wilson High School) and four high schools in the Pasadena Unified School District (Marshall, Muir, PHS, Blair).
Essential Functions: * Under the supervision of the Director and Component Coordinator, the incumbent will provide tutoring services during the academic year to students at the respective high schools, evaluating the program objectives and activities.
* Incumbent will serve as a liaison between Upward Bound and the schools. Will develop and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, counselors, and faculty.
* Incumbent will also teach courses during the Saturday Academy to Upward Bound participants from two high schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (Garfield High School) and four high schools in the Pasadena Unified School District (Marshall, Muir, PHS, Blair).
* The incumbent will teach High School curriculum in any of the following subjects: English (Composition and Literature), Foreign Language (Spanish), Mathematics through Pre-Calculus, Laboratory Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics).
* Class management: assist in formal and informal assessments of participant's academic deficiencies and make necessary recommendations; develop curriculum and activities; evaluate and measure participant's academic progress; attend meetings, prepare and maintain attendance records; provide grades for each participant at the end of each week. Conduct parent conference as needed.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree and appropriate teaching credentials in related field from an accredited college or university and/or or college level teaching experience with a Master's degree or Doctoral degree. * Prior experience in teaching high school students.
Special Desired Qualifications: * Master's Degree is highly desirable. Prior experience working with Los Angeles/Pasadena Unified School District.
The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current UAS employees who apply for the position.
