This position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.

Purpose

The State of Texas Advanced Resource Recovery (STARR) program is looking for a postdoctoral researcher capable to develop multi-phase flow simulation in support of increasing oil production in Texas oil fields.

Responsibilities

  • Research in all aspects of reservoir engineering including CO2 enhanced oil recovery, water flood, and reservoir geology.
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Presentation of results to Texas operators and other relevant venues.
  • Project administration.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent field, knowledge of CO2 enhanced oil recovery, water flood, and reservoir geology, expertise with one or more multiphase flow simulation programs such as Eclipse, CMG, and Tough. Write reports and papers in Domestic and International Journals. Proven capacity for innovative, creative scientific analysis. Ability to give presentations to operators and to academic audiences. Proven publication and verbal communication skills. Ability to work both independently and effectively in a group. Ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines, including engineers, data scientist, geologists. Ph.D. must have been received within 3 years from date of hire.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Deep understanding of the CO2 enhanced oil recovery process. Knowledge of phase behavior and multiphase flow simulation. Strong background in history matching and production optimizations. Experience in oil field engineering. Knowledge of Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and associated economics. Programing skills particularly in python or C. Experience in the application of various advanced data & analytics and statistical methodologies to large geophysical, petrophysical, geologic, reservoir and other subsurface data sets. Proven publication record and verbal communication skills with a wide variety of audiences. Broad skills base in areas, including petrophysics and geology. Demonstrated interest in understanding the challenges faced by society to explore, exploit, and store energy resources and willingness to help define research direction to better understand the role of engineers and geoscientists as part of the ongoing energy transition.

Salary Range

$60,000 - $65,000

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
