Job Description

We have an opening for an Economic and Community Development Coordinator. The Community Development Coordinator assists local communities in the development of community and infrastructure projects, secures funding sources, and provides administration of such projects. This position also assists in the development and delivery of regional planning programs by providing technical and advisory assistance.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist communities and work with boards/committee members to create and develop community and infrastructure projects by securing funding from various public and private sources
  2. Research, compile, and draft information for grant proposals and provide necessary reporting for various grant awarding agencies
  3. Obtain project funding by assisting in the preparation of project proposals to local, state, and federal governments and other public entities
  4. Assist communities with the appropriate expenditure of funds received through grants by providing administration of such grants
  5. Develop and maintain relationships with relevant regional, state, and federal organizations
  6. Promote and utilize economic development tools/programs to incent job creation and tax base growth
  7. Publicly present at open meetings and communicate with local press to share accomplishments
  8. Provide business development assistance for startup business and other local businesses looking to expand or relocate
  9. Cultivate relationships with existing businesses to promote growth and retention of those businesses in the communities served
  10. Promotes a positive image of the company by representing the company at professional meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences and establishing and maintaining credible relations with community development, emergency services and management, and other governmental entities and professional organizations
  11. Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of local economic development and community planning concepts
  2. Knowledge of governmental agencies and processes related to community development, land-use, long-rang planning, urban design and building constructions
  3. Understanding of redevelopment, downtown development, and infill development
  4. Strong oral and written communication skills is required
  5. Ability to publicly speak at local meetings and committees
  6. Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  7. Ability to manage multiple projects and multiple deadlines
  8. Ability to work effectively with government officials, citizens and community organizations is required
  9. Ability to travel occasionally is required
  10. Occasional evening meetings are required
Education and Experience:
  1. A Bachelor’s degree in community development, urban planning, economic development, business or a related field is required
  2. A minimum of three years’ experience in grant writing, grant administration and project development are preferred
  3. Experience with emergency services, hazard mitigation and infrastructure or community facilities project planning is preferred
License or Certification Requirements:
  1. Economic Development Professional Finance (EDFP) is preferred
  2. National Development Council (NDC) Certification is preferred
  3. Certified Economic Development (CEcD) Professional preferred
  4. American Institute of Certified Planners Certification (AICP) preferred
