General Responsibilities
The associate vice president of teaching and learning serves as the vice president's primary liaison to faculty and staff in the teaching and learning divisions and to units throughout the college, and assumes day-to-day responsibility for the implementation of policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives, and overall academic administration as directed by the vice president. In this capacity, the associate vice president provides coordination, troubleshooting, and quality control for area-wide efforts including: academic scheduling; enrollment management; policies articulation and transfer partnerships; budget monitoring; data gathering and reporting; assessment and accreditation; and strategic planning. The associate vice president also assists in management, design and implementation of major initiatives in the academics. This includes but is not limited to Guided Pathways, Academic Service Centers, General Education curriculum, Jumpstart, Dual-Enrollment and Early College related programs.

In addition to these duties, the associate vice president is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive communications system for Teaching and Learning that ensures the efficient, two-way flow of information between the Office of the Vice President and all internal and external stakeholders. In this capacity, the associate vice president maintains frequent communication with individual faculty members, academic division leadership, and units around the campus. Employs equity minded and student-centered practices in designing, administering, and managing policies, practices, and circumstances as their duties require.

This position requires an academic leader with superb communication skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a broad range of constituencies. The associate vice president must possess first-hand familiarity with the two-year instructional mission as well as broad administrative experience in order to ensure academic excellence, administrative efficiency, and regulatory compliance throughout the Teaching and Learning area.
Work Performed
  • Designs and manages the communications system between the office of the vice president and the teaching and learning divisions and offices; assists with VPTL staff meeting agendas; gathers input on proposed initiatives from relevant stakeholders; coordinates area-wide data collection and reporting efforts; provides updates on area developments to faculty and staff; relays input, feedback, and requests to the vice president, along with recommendations as appropriate.
  • Coordinates the review process for area and college-wide policies and procedures. Collaborates with division leadership to address implementation challenges.
  • Provides direct supervision for the division of Curriculum and Instructional Services and ensures oversight of academic operations related to academic scheduling, and curriculum management.
  • Overseas the academic administrative components of Jumpstart, Dual-Enrollment, and Early College related programs.
  • Serves as the primary Teaching and Learning liaison to the Enrollment Management team for coordinating efforts related to student recruitment, admissions, and enrollment.
  • Functions as the primary Teaching and Learning liaison to Planning, Research, and Organizational Development for coordinating ongoing learning outcomes assessment efforts, accreditation processes, and quality award applications.
  • Represents the vice president of teaching and learning as directed on college-wide committees, including Enrollment Management, Related Issues, Curriculum Council, and College Council and at external conferences and meetings. Reports developments to the vice president and makes recommendations as appropriate related to policy and programming.
  • Assists in design and management of area-wide initiatives as directed by the vice president, including but not limited to Guided Pathways, Academic Service Centers, partnership activities at the Laurel College Center, and updates to the General Education curriculum.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the policy and regulatory environment affecting the teaching and learning area and advises the vice president accordingly. Proactively monitors the compliance of all area work in relation to external bodies such as MHEC and Middle States, as well as federal regulations including but not limited to FERPA, Title IX, and ADA.

  • At least three years of postsecondary teaching experience.
  • At least three of years of administrative experience in the postsecondary environment, encompassing strategic planning, budget management, and personnel supervision.
  • Demonstrated grasp of learning outcomes assessment within the context of the postsecondary accreditation process.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a broad array of constituencies, including faculty.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills. The associate vice president must maintain an open and flexible work style with all area constituencies and must possess a documented record of building consensus among diverse stakeholders and opinions.
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment while supporting the priorities of the vice president of teaching and learning and college leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote work environments that are inclusive and supportive of all forms of diversity.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Regular attendance is a requirement for this position.
  • Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.
