Package Design Mechanical Engineer - Staff


Marvell is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Packaging Staff Engineer responsible for mechanical design of packages, assembly tooling and fixtures supporting new product development from concept to qualified product for our fast-growing line of products.

The successful candidate will work at Marvell's office in Westlake Village, CA.

Responsibilities

The Staff Engineer will be responsible to drive development of innovative mechanical design supporting prototyping through production of package assembly.

  • The successful candidate will design and perform structural analysis on a wide variety of complex electronic packages and modules.
  • Work in collaboration with assembly supplier to develop simulations (thermal, mechanical, thermo-mechanical, warpage), mechanical drawings (2D/3D), and tooling & fixtures designs for products including advanced CMOS nodes, silicon photonics devices, and other emerging packaging technologies.
  • The Staff Engineer's excellent communication and social skills will help quickly grasp issues and drive the appropriate developments to resolution.
  • Work in global cross functional teams to drive timely completion of hardware.


Qualifications:

Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of experience or Ph.D. in related area.

  • SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor or similar 3D solid modeling experience
  • Finite Element Analysis for mechanical simulations using Ansys or similar tool
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Test (DFT)
  • Chip-Package Interaction (CPI) analysis techniques
  • Statistical stack-up tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Experience working with manufacturing engineers to transfer prototype designs to production
  • Familiar using analytical, numerical, and/or empirical assessments for design optimization


Desired Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with conventional machining, CNC machining, & rapid prototyping
  • Experience with injection mold tooling, forming tools, and fixture design
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5-2018)
  • Thermal FEA simulation experience with ICEPAK, FloTherm or similar tools
  • Ability to remotely drive development at suppliers
  • Strong organization and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent technical communications
