Definition: This position supports all aspects related to the safe and efficient mechanical operations, including the day-to-day operations of the swimming pools.
Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of swimming pool mechanical, chemical feed and filtration systems and all equipment associated with swimming pools.
Principal Duties: * Performs routine maintenance, repair, and diagnostics on swimming pools, equipment and grounds, including but not limited to plumbing, chemical feeders, filters, boilers, electrical equipment, ozone generation equipment, chemical controllers, pump stations, and filters. * Conducts regular walkthroughs of facilities to ensure appropriate appearance and needed maintenance and repairs. * Assists with pre-season preparation and daily operation of pools as well as post-season winterization of outdoor pools. * Utilizes general aquatics equipment including, but not limited to swimming pool pumps, boilers, filters and related valuing system, chemical feed and monitoring equipment, general pool maintenance equipment including manual and automatic vacuuming systems, hydro washers, and general pool deck equipment. * Assists with maintaining mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, engines, boilers, piping, valves and instrumentation. * Operates mechanical equipment including but not limited to trucks, trailers, and compressor. * Oversees, communicates, and trains pool staff in regard to mechanical and chemical operations of pools and other equipment necessary to insure safe and proper operation pools. * Observes all common safety practices; especially in regards to handling pool chemicals. * Maintain work areas and storage areas in a neat and organized manner. Clearly mark and label areas for ease of finding materials, equipment and supplies.
Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Working Environment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Work requires physical and visual capabilities to operate passenger vehicles. Work requires frequent light to moderate lifting/carrying (up to 50 pounds), occasional heavy lifting, walking and standing, exposure to sun, and use of both hands. Work involves occasional pulling, pushing, reaching, use of fingers, crawling, bending/stooping, kneeling, twisting, squatting, and driving. Work includes occasional exposure to excessive intermittent noise, dust, fumes, smoke or gases, solvents, cleaning solutions, grease and oils, pesticides, or herbicides, and working around slippery or uneven walking surfaces, machinery, and moving vehicles. Frequently works alone and occasionally with others, uses constant verbal and written communication and frequently performs multiple concurrent tasks. The candidate for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to do the job.
Qualifications: A minimum of one year of experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of pumps, motors, and controllers, related to pool facilities. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Special Qualifications: Knowledge of BEC System Chemical Controllers and Chlorine Systems. Current certification in Certified Pool Operator or ability to obtain within 6 months. Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's license.
