Position Overview

Girl Up is a global leadership development initiative, positioning girls to be leaders in the movement for gender equality. With resources in five languages and 6,000 Girl Up Clubs in nearly 120 countries, we have trained 150,000 girls of all backgrounds to create tangible change for girls everywhere. Girl Up provides leadership training and gives girls tools to become gender equality advocates and activists. Through our programs, girls broaden their social impact skill set, benefit from a platform to tell their stories, and apply STEM for social good. Our girl leaders create real policy change at local and national levels, help raise millions of dollars to support United Nations programs that reach tens of thousands of girls around the world and build community-based movements. Girl Up was founded by the United Nations Foundation in 2010 and continues to work across a global community of partners to achieve gender equality worldwide.

Girl Up is seeking a Community Undergraduate Intern ready to contribute to the goals of supporting, expanding, and strengthening Girl Up's Teen Advisory Board, Alumni Network, and online community. The Community Undergraduate Intern, Girl Up will assist in a range of tasks to support execution of the Girl Up Club Program, programming in the online community platform, and overall community engagement programming across the Girl Up Program Team. They are a member of the Girl Up Program team will report to the Manager, Community Engagement, Girl Up.

Essential Functions

Club Program and Online Community Support (33%)

  • Collaborate to coordinate content curation for news, features, resources, and other content in the online Community.
  • Support the development and design of new or enhanced Club resources.
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of current Club and Community resources.
  • Organize monthly office hours for leaders to connect with and get support from HQ.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Programmatic Support (33%)

  • Support girl-led "Unite" Regional Summits; help to monitor the Girl Up Coalition Slack channels.
  • Support inputs for the Girl Up Monthly Newsletter; help to review and respond to Coalition Leader Reports.
  • Collaborate with program team staff to plan Alumni and Mentorship Program events.
  • Support Program team staff with the development and operations of the Teen Advisory Board, Alumni Network, and Coalition Leaders programs.

Administrative Support (33%)

  • Support the set-up, planning, and execution of registration links, designing promotional graphics, prepping speakers, etc. for Alumni and Coalition Leader programs both virtual and in-person.
  • Design and co-create drafts for external Alumni Network communications.
  • Participate in internal working groups, committees, and meetings taking minutes as needed.

Selection Criteria

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university.
  • Commitment to Girl Up's mission and core values; Commitment to social justice, diversity and inclusion.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a passion for member engagement.
  • Experience in Excel, Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Canva and Outlook.
  • Responsible, flexible, and hard-working.
  • Fun, friendly, and collaborative.
  • An interest in youth leadership, global development and the work of the UN Foundation, gender equality a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills to engage a wide range of individuals including youth participants.
  • Strong skills working in teams and across many types of organizational structure - collaborator; problem solver; relationship-builder; and strong inter-personal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Dependability, openness and flexibility.
  • This is a remote position.
  • Ability to work 20-29 hours per week.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance / tardiness policy.
  • Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
