What you will be responsible for:This position assists the investment support legal team by: (i) onboarding clients to trade derivatives products, including OTC and cleared derivatives, repurchase transactions, prime brokerage transactions, to-be-announced securities and related transactions; (ii) onboarding dealer counterparties with which clients may trade such products; and (iii) ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations in connection with the trading of such products.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the onboarding of clients for derivatives trading and coordinate client onboarding across various departments, including client services, trading, operations and investment compliance.
- Support the onboarding of dealer counterparties by negotiating and amending a broad array of derivatives and other trading agreements directly with dealer counterparties, including ISDAs and CSAs, Futures Agreements, MRAs, MSFTAs and related control agreements.
- Negotiate agreements for access to electronic trading platforms, including SEFs, MTFs, etc.
- In connection with the onboarding of dealer counterparties and clients, ensure that all applicable regulatory requirements (including SEC, CFTC, Dodd-Frank, EMIR, and other jurisdictional requirements) are met.
- Monitor changes to global derivatives regulation and advise internal stakeholders.
- Ensure all needs and requirements of the investment team are met in connection with the trading of derivative products.
- Respond to ad-hoc requests from derivatives brokers, internal and external clients, and in-house attorneys.
- Follow established procedures, policies, protocols, and schedules to ensure that work is performed in accordance with set deadlines.
- Manage paralegals by providing prioritization, direction, training and coaching in order to accomplish projects and tasks. Make recommendations regarding employment, performance measurement, development and other related personnel activities.
- Assume additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
- JD with at least 7 - 10 years of work experience in legal or financial services including at least 5 years' experience with derivatives transactions.
- Buy-side experience preferred but not required.
- Knowledge and understanding of the laws, rules and regulations applicable to derivatives trading, including Dodd-Frank and EMIR, as applicable, without limitation, to execution, reporting, clearing and margin rules.
- Experience negotiating trading agreements for various instruments and platforms, including ISDAs and CSAs, Futures and Cleared Swaps Agreements, MRAs, MSFTAs, SEFs, and MTFs.
- Experience working with multiple client types preferred, including '40 Act funds, UCITS, ERISA funds, LLCs, Superannuation Trusts, and in multiple jurisdictions, including the US, EU, Canada, Japan and Australia.
- Exceptional team working, and interpersonal, skills with a client service focus.
- Exceptional organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Must be thorough, persistent, and self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to function with a high degree of independence and accuracy.
- Must be able to work on multiple projects while meeting competing and inflexible deadlines.
