Sony Corporation of America (SCA), is seeking a Sr. Manager, Software Operations Engineering, GSIRT-US to join the Global Information Security Department located in Herndon. This position will report to the Director of Security Development and be a core team member of the group responsible for streamlining GSIRT's operations. We are looking for someone with fresh ideas, proven ability to lead a team of operational engineers, experience defining and implementing metrics (SLO/SLI) and expertise establishing foundational observability services. The successful candidate will be a growth-minded manager that is passionate about building reliable products and has the ability to influence and execute our mission across the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Key member of the Security Development team responsible for driving overall automation and development strategy, defining, and providing input for product roadmaps, managing the development and day to day operations of products, and solutions
  • Personnel management and scheduling for the Operations Engineering team involving regular one-on-ones, writing performance reviews and other performance management activities, annual promotions, career mentorship, skills development, and compensation planning
  • Drive and develop roadmap activities with an emphasis on the highest level of uptime, service quality, deployment automation and observability
  • Facilitate team activities through; daily stand-up meetings, proactive backlog refinement, grooming, sprint & release planning, team retrospectives and team health checks
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve automation for the team and ensure a high level of value, productivity, quality, and reliability
  • Lead team to build tools and frameworks to automate the monitoring systems to ensure highest level of uptime on various production environments
  • Own defining and tracking SLIs, SLOs that enable the Operations Engineering team to move quickly and ensure service quality goals are being met while, maintaining reliable services by collaborating with customers and implementing metric driven processes
  • Maintain a high level of understanding of customer impact in order to prioritize the workload between feature development, internally driven initiatives, and customer support
  • Optimize incident management processes and improve operational efficiency by leading effective-and-blameless postmortems, defining remediation steps and promoting a fail-forward approach
  • Contribute to the development of usage metrics to help show effectiveness and value of the tools and services provided by the team
  • Serve as theliaison between the business side of the organization and the operational, identifying needs, communicating internally/externally as needed
  • Review team's and larger organizational processes, recommend changes, institute and champion new process as needed
  • Deployment, support and monitoring of existing and new services, platforms, and application stacks
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on deployments, processes, and standard operating procedures/runbooks with a goal to minimize runbooks by automation
  • Prepare and/or present briefing on development related solutions, and recommendation tailored to various levels of technical expertise

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years' experience in Information Technology
  • Minimum 7 years' production deployment experience
  • Minimum 3 years' of experience working with enterprise container platforms such as Docker, ECS, Kubernetes
  • Experience supporting Security and/or incident response teams (big plus)
  • Excellent analytical and problem identification & remediation skills while maintaining big picture context
  • Ability to translate business requirements to technical tasks and vice versa
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task and manage multiple initiatives at once
  • Proven hands-on experience with workflow automation technologies (Apache Airflow, Astronomer, N8N, SOAR platforms)
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps and agile principles and standards
  • Ability to identify and automate common and repeatable tasks/processes
  • Experience with Linux environments a plus
  • Experience with virtualization, container orchestration technologies a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound problem resolution, judgment, negotiating and decision-making skills
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to accomplish assigned tasks
  • All candidates must be authorized to work in the US

This role will be based in Herndon, VA. However, remote candidates in certain locations may also be considered.
