POSITION SUMMARY: The position is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement of personal and/ or commercial claims of moderate to high complexity, including dispute resolution and/or recovery. This position requires successful completion of Citizens Fundamentals Claims School, which includes obtaining an overall passing score.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL, BASIC AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION. THESE FUNCTIONS ARE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF ALL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED.

  • Model ethical behavior and execute job responsibilities in accordance with Citizens core values, ethics, and information protection policies.
  • Negotiates and settles claims in accordance with Citizens Best Claims Practices and Estimating Guidelines and industry standards.
  • Researches, analyzes and interprets policy language and state law as it applies to submitted claims.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in conducting investigations, damage assessments and claim evaluations.
  • Documents all relevant information in the electronic claims management system.
  • Contributes to the business production goals and objectives.
  • Participates in workload surges and/or catastrophe response as needed, to include mandated overtime during specified catastrophic events. May assist with other Business Units as needed.
  • May coach, counsel, or train less-experienced staff, may also direct the work of others, may provide input in the performance management, goal setting and review processes
Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates working knowledge to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and department operational guidelines in daily functions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and adapt to frequent priority changes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Ability to recognize problematic situations and put into effect creative solutions.
  • Possesses strong customer service skills and can address customer escalations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate's degree OR two (2) years relevant experience OR a combination of college education and experience equivalent to two (2) years.

AND

  • Six (6) or more years of experience handling claims.
  • Must possess a valid, active and appropriate Florida adjuster license within 90 days of employment and maintain it as a condition of continued employment. Appointment required.
  • Within 90 days of employment, must successfully complete all requirements of Citizens Fundamental Claims School which includes obtaining an overall passing score.

OR

  • Juris Doctor (JD)

AND

  • 1 or more years of adjusting experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or field with skills transferable to insurance.
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience handling claims.
  • Active Florida Adjuster license (620 or 644).
  • Industry designations or certifications.
  • Xactimate proficiency.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the ability to sit, hear, converse over the telephone and key frequently on a computer for long periods of time (4 or more hours per day). Position may require the ability to be mobile, operate a motor vehicle, climb roofs and inspect homes including attics & crawl spaces. This position may require occasional overnight travel during catastrophe response; and may be required to work for extended periods of time to include after standard business hours in addition to weekends and holidays during catastrophe response, or as needed.
