CHIEF INSPECTOR, REPAIR STATION (STARLINK AVIATION)

Starlink believes in providing fast, reliable internet to serve populations with little or no connectivity. We design, build, and launch the world's largest constellation of satellites, enabling us to operate a global internet network unbounded by traditional ground infrastructure limitations. In addition to direct-to-consumer service, Starlink is also developing truly high-speed internet for the airline industry.

The repair station team is ultimately responsible for onsite and remote installation of Starlink hardware on private and commercial aircraft. As Lead/Chief Inspector, you will ensure that all Starlink aviation systems and procedures result in a safe, quality product that falls within manufacturing specifications and FAA guidelines/regulations. You will be involved with day-to-day decisions of aircraft airworthiness and steer other technical personnel towards proper execution of repair station work orders (according to applicable sections 14 CFRs, various safety standards, and the repair station manual). You will work closely with SpaceX engineers, partnered airline and aviation companies, and other maintenance contractors or FAA certified repair stations as we strive to deliver a much-improved technology to an industry that is long overdue for innovation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform Starlink hardware installation on aircraft under strict guidance of FAA requirements
  • Interface and build positive relationships with SpaceX aviation partners to support antenna installation
  • Responsible for Starlink repair station compliance with 14 CFR Part 145, European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and other applicable CFR's (Code of Federal Regulation)
  • Responsible for the inspection and determination of the airworthiness of aircraft, aircraft systems, equipment, and parts in compliance with specifications and applicable government regulations
  • Ensure compliance with directives, technical manuals, work standards, safety procedures, and company policies relating to aircraft maintenance operations
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease cycle time, and streamline work flow processes
  • Assist with opening work orders and assembling work packages based off customer needs
  • Ensure that any installations, repairs, or alterations on assigned work orders are 100% safe, timely, properly configured
  • Develop and sustain a culture of safety, quality compliance, and professionalism
  • Maintain strict tool control by observing proper FOD policy while performing any work on aircraft
  • Ensures employees possess the qualifications and certifications necessary to perform their jobs
  • Ensure all logbooks, service bulletins, and airworthiness directives research is accomplished prior to the completion of the aircraft inspection

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience working on aircraft/aviation hardware or experience performing installations in an electrical or mechanical test environment
  • Possesses a valid Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate as well as an FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) certificate

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in aircraft avionics and structural repair
  • 10+ years of experience in commercial aircraft maintenance
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in related field engineering, aviation maintenance, or aeronautical science
  • Comprehensive understanding of aircraft maintenance and quality control procedures in a commercial and military aviation environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be reliable, self-motivated, and able to deal with stressful situations and timelines while maintaining a professional and non-confrontational attitude
  • Experience working in a variety of software environments, applications, and languages including Linux, Windows, Microsoft Office, git, SVN, JIRA, Altium, Mentor PCB, NX, Bash, and Python

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Up to 50% of travel or more may be required for this role
  • Must be willing to work extended hours or weekends as needed to support critical milestones
  • Standing for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
