Job Description
Summary/Objective
The Applications Development and Technical Service Director - Derivatives and Chemical Specialties role involves leading a team providing customer technical service, contributing to innovation programs, and technical support of product advocacy and regulatory affairs. The position leads a team of applications scientists/engineers and chemical technical professionals that are focused on Albemarle Specialties Product Areas. This role is also expected to provide safety and technical oversight of lab studies conducted by the team.
The incumbent will have the unique opportunity to shape and grow the team as we combine the former bromine and lithium specialties businesses into one specialties GBU and introduce new products and market areas into the portfolio.
This position reports to the Director of Albemarle Specialties Applications and Customer Technical Service and is located at our Process Development Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Essential Functions
Maintain a highly engaged team and ensure that needs of the GBU are met
Lead the team in contributing to world class innovation programs
Ensure that customer technical service needs of the assigned product areas are met
Ensure that technical support needs for product advocacy and regulatory affairs are met
Be a thought and practice leader for laboratory safety
Required Education and Experience
Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline. A deep understanding of the technical fundamentals of Chemistry is required.
At least 10 years of industry experience with at least 5 years of those in an administrative leadership position
Customer-facing experience
Experience leading technical teams
At least 3 years of experience managing laboratories and ensuring compliance with EHS policies and procedures
Experience with the safe handling, use, and transportation of acutely hazardous materials
Familiar with common techniques for chemical analysis
Ability to prioritize and respond in a timely manner to multiple parallel requests
Ability to travel to other Albemarle sites or customer sites
Preferred Education and Experience
Advanced degree (preferably Ph.D.) in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline
Experience providing technical support for product advocacy, regulatory affairs, and stewardship activities
Proven ability to develop and apply deep technical knowledge in multiple areas
Proven project/program management experience
Familiar with SAP, SharePoint and other Microsoft Office tools
