Job Description

DLZ Corporation has a Senior Planner opportunity in Lansing, MI.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Develop a variety of technical reports and documents, including but not limited to, traffic studies, corridor studies, environmental conditions, comprehensive land use plans of jurisdictions such as towns, cities, counties, and metropolitan areas, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance documents, recreation sites and facility evaluations and master plans, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) transition plans, etc.
  • Lead the collection and analysis of a variety of planning data, including vehicular and pedestrian traffic, environmental conditions, land use, socioeconomics, building and park facility evaluations, etc. Data may be collected at project sites using current technologies and/or review of existing information, including census data, topographic maps, aerial photographs, and other information readily available on the internet and other sources. Data collection and analysis may also be performed in support of engineering, environmental, and/or architectural projects.
  • Perform assignments requiring application of specialized technical expertise independent of other personnel and exercise professional judgment, primarily related to the architectural, engineering, environmental, and/or planning disciplines.
  • Communicate with planning officials, recommend measures affecting land use, public utilities, community facilities, housing and transportation to control and guide community development and renewal.
  • Review and evaluate environmental impact reports applying to specific private and public planning projects and programs.
  • Collect field measurements and other data necessary to determine compliance of building and site features with relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Compile and analyze data on buildings and sites, prepare graphic and narrative reports on collected data.
  • Develop concepts and approaches to solutions of simple to complex architectural and engineering non-compliance issues.
  • Conduct field investigations, surveys, studies, or other research to compile and analyze data. Field conditions may be highly variable and require traversing low to moderately challenging physical needs areas in all types of weather conditions, including use of interior stairs or traversing outdoor natural environments.
  • Hold public meetings with respective groups to formulate, develop, or address issues regarding upcoming projects, land use, or community plans.
  • Interact with clients and possess aptitude to act as a positive representative of the company and its core values.
  • Reviews and applies relevant regulatory standards and guidelines in the performance of all duties as assigned.
  • Keep informed about economic or legal issues involved in various pertinent codes or regulations.
  • Position will require travel to project sites, including both day trips and trips requiring overnight or multiple overnight stays throughout DLZ's service area.
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Planning, Environmental, GIS, Construction, Architectural, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, or another relevant field with 5+ years' experience in a similar role.

  • AICP or other relevant professional certification desired but not required.

  • Experience working with State DOT's, County Road Commissions, and/or Local Road Officials preferred.

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite 365 including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • AutoCAD/MicroStation and GIS software experience skills preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize.

  • Problem solving, analytical accuracy, and follow-through skills required.

  • Strong oral and written presentation skills.

  • Must be able to travel for field work with overnight stays occasionally required.

  • Must have the ability to pass background check including driving record and pre-employment drug testing.

  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and comply with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
