Lead and execute the district's vision for Library Media Services, including, but limited to ensuring equitable access to the following standards of service across all libraries: literacy instruction, culture of literacy, inquiry and investigation, and family and community outreach.
Supervise the activities and financial needs of the department in accordance with district's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and evaluating assigned employees; developing annual departmental budget, analyzing and reviewing budgetary and financial data, and monitoring/authorizing expenditures in accordance with established guidelines.
Direct daily departmental operations to ensure all students and staff are effective discerning users of information and technology.
Design and direct an ongoing program to streamline centralized receiving processing of all library materials.
Design, deliver, and maintain an ongoing program to provide library automation, databases or on-line resources, and curriculum-integration training to librarians and other professional staff.
Collaborate with teachers and central staff to integrate the use of library resources the curriculum through the teaching of research and information processing skills to ensure that students are college ready and workforce ready and effective life-long users of information.
Demonstrate knowledge of and approve all library materials and instructional to ensure a high degree of uniformity of library programming and collection development among the elementary and secondary schools.
Work with campus librarians, R.E.A.D. Leads and staff to encourage and parental and community involvement in Library and Media Services activities such as book fairs and author/storyteller visits. Promote the joy of reading and free self- selection through reading incentive programs
Ensure linkage of current and relevant informational resources, services, technology with the needs of students and teachers to facilitate teaching and learning
Maintain an ongoing program to decrease the timeline for distribution, cataloging and processing, of all formats of library materials to schools
Keep abreast of current and emerging trends in library technologies, facilities, and collection development, and communicating this information to all stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required Master's Degree from accredited university, Library Science preferred.
Required Texas Library Certification; Valid Texas Teacher Certificate and/or Texas Standard Principal Certificate or Mid-Management Certificate preferred.
Required 5+ years Librarian experience; 3-5 years Teaching experience and/or 5+ years supervisory experience preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in library technologies, materials, collection development, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade curriculum, and general curriculum and instructional strategies.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, parents, and members of the business community.
Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a team of employees.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with administrators, campus level staff, parents, and the community.
