Job Description
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Manager Strategic Technology Partnerships at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

POSITION SUMMARY
In this position you will be accountable for providing strategic leadership for step-change growth and delivering value through external technology engagement.

You will lead Air Products' efforts to map the evolving landscape in emerging and existing businesses, identify target technologies and companies, and secure access to create a competitive advantage.
The role requires a blend of skills often found in Corporate Venturing, Corporate Development, Strategy, Technology Development and Technology Scouting.

NATURE AND SCOPE
The scope of this position is broad, challenging and must drive change to meet the objectives defined above.
This position interacts regularly and must influence decisions with all levels across business, technical and corporate functions, including executive management. You will also directly interface with external partners across a range of modes including technology acquisition, alliances, joint technology development, and corporate venturing. As a result, superb communication and networking skills are essential.

DIMENSIONS
Maintains, articulates, and communicates a clearly defined portfolio of actionable opportunities that has been vetted and debated with senior AP leadership across business, technical and corporate boundaries.
Navigates business and technical organizations at external entities (corporations, start-ups, etc.) with ease, delivering insights critical to AP.

No direct reports. However, the Strategic Technology Partnerships team includes Analysts who are at an earlier stage in their career. The Manager Strategic Technology Partnerships will be expected to mentor these Analysts.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
In this role, you will be accountable for driving strategic growth via technology acquisition. Accountabilities include:
  • Maintains, articulates, and communicates a clearly defined portfolio of actionable opportunities that has been vetted and debated with senior AP leadership across business, technical and corporate boundaries.
  • Works closely with business and technical colleagues to ensure strategic alignment and to appropriately challenge norms that might overlook growth options.
  • Consistent with that strategy, drives the identification, prioritization, engagement, and relationship building with prospective technology acquisition targets.
  • Develops rigorous business and technology plans that support investment theses for technology acquisitions and options for the best mode of technology acquisition with external parties.
  • Develops requirements for technology needs within AP
  • Maintains, grows, and shares an external network of industrial contacts relevant to AP's businesses that provide credibility to new positions taken and benchmarking opportunities for the company.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Basic and broad understanding of IG technologies
  • Business & Technology Intelligence/Analysis
  • Strategy/Business Model Development
  • Technology Road Mapping & Portfolio management
  • Cost Model/Financial Analysis
  • Innovation and IP management (Idea Management)
  • Legal agreements and Deal-modes (JDA, JV, Investment, carve-out & acquisition)
  • IP Licensing
  • Excellent analytical skills and business acumen, including the ability to see opportunities from both business and technical perspectives.
  • Superb communication skills, including the ability to quickly and concisely advocate cogent positions / opinions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities; ability to collaborate internally and externally using a broad range of influence styles to drive desired results.
  • Very strong project, process and organizational skills; ability to juggle multiple projects / assignments at one time and deliver superior results in a timely manner.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years' experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field required; engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry or systems engineering a plus, advanced degree a plus.
  • Experience in a commercial, market facing role, or a consulting role is required, consulting a plus.
