GIS Analytics Internship
MAPSCorps is a not-for-profit organization based in Hyde Park, Chicago. Born at the University of Chicago, MAPSCorps uses an approach called asset-based community-engaged research to ensure that our science serves community priorities and needs. MAPSCorps utilizes technology, cross-sector collaboration, and youth engagement to generate visibility for all the vital assets of a community.
MAPSCorps employs and delivers STEM and health-focused programming to high school and early college youth who map existing resources across Chicago and other partner cities. Working in teams, MAPSCorps' youth participants walk the blocks of our communities, observing, collecting, and analyzing data about all public-facing businesses and organizations. Throughout the course of the program, each team prepares an extensive research project focused on social determinants of health then presents its project video at the program's culminating event, the Scientific Symposium.

The Position:
MAPSCorps is hiring an undergraduate or graduate level Data Intern who will report to the Data Specialist. This person will process data to ensure data quality, assist in preparing secondary asset data for community-based non-profits, clean data, create data visualizations, and prepare data science curricula and train youth in Data Science concepts. Data Intern pay will be $17/hour for approximately 20 hours per week for 10 weeks, starting in mid-March.
