The Big Picture:

Do you have a real passion for being part of a creative, forward thinking organization estimating some of the highest profile, diverse projects in the industry, while utilizing the most efficient and up to date technology?

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Estimator to provide leadership, coordination, and final preparation of estimates for a wide range of project types and sizes. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will be interacting with staff at all levels. Your problem-solving abilities, thoughtful approach, efficiency, and integrity will be vital to your success in this role.

Location: Minneapolis, MN /Washington, DC/ San Antonio, TX/ Phoenix, AZ/ Chicago, IL/ Milwaukee, WI/ Portland, OR/ Seattle, WA/ Denver, CO

What will you be doing?

Your organization, flexibility, extraordinary customer focus, problem solving skills and strong communication are essential in helping our customers find the right solutions for their construction projects:

Craft project estimates

  • Complete quantity survey and pricing for all scopes of work individually or as part of a team depending on project size to ensure all work is included in each estimate
  • Prepare trade partner strategy working with project team to ensure a cost effective and comprehensive approach.
  • Evaluate trade partner budgets and bids
  • Prepare value engineering and project options studies to ensure best value for our clients
  • Perform historical cost data gathering

Participate as a project team member

  • Participate in plan and estimate review meetings, other project review meetings and site investigations, as needed
  • Assist lead estimator with gathering information from local government and private entities that may affect project (i.e. permits, wage requirements, etc.)
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to new estimators as appropriate

How will you succeed?

  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and handle multiple project tasks
  • Applicable mathematical skills
  • Familiarity with building and estimating techniques and software
  • Positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Open to change based on diverse input and feedback

Education:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Estimating, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience
