Albemarle's Catalysts business provides flexible, performance-based catalysts, technologies, and related services to the refining and petrochemical industries. Since 2005, our Catalysts business has served the refining industry for decades in providing game-changing solutions and technical expertise which help our customers sharpen their competitive edge. It has been a strong contributor to the growth and cash flow generation of Albemarle.

In response to the accelerating global energy transition, the Catalysts business is thoughtfully pivoting its strategy to focus on new geographies in India and SE Asia, attractive crude-to-chemical technologies, renewable diesel to serve a larger hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) market, and pyrolysis oil treatment for bio-oil (synthetic) fuel.

To support this exciting plan and maximizeits potential, Albemarle launched a strategic review of the Catalysts business in September 2021 to seek the best investment strategy for the business. With a new investment strategy in place, the Catalysts business will excel as an industry-leading provider of flexible, performance-based catalysts, technologies, and related services to the refining and petrochemical industries as it expands into new markets and launches new technologies that support clean and efficient transportation fuels worldwide.

As the Director of Communications, this leader-doer will serve as strategist, advisor and storyteller in developing and execute global internal and external communications programs for the new business entity. In partnership with business leadership, this role will help with branding and positioning of the new business entity and create and execute a strategy, story-based messaging, actionable plans, and creative assets that strengthen the brand with key stakeholders worldwide. This is an exciting time for a growing business, and you would be a critical part of the important and exciting work underway to drive execution excellence as it positions itself for long-term success.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Director of Communications, you will:

  • Hire, coach, develop, and empower direct reports to be best-in-class communications professionals. Oversee talent reviews and development/career planning to assess and develop talent needs.

  • Partner closely with the business President, CCO/CMO and business leadership team to create and establish a brand identity for the new business that sets it up for success. Design a consistent narrative that conveys the business's story and value.

  • Define, execute, and measure an annual global strategic communications plan that enhances our reputation with internal and external stakeholders and helps the business reach its yearly goals.

  • Initiate and maintain relationships with business leadership to advance planning efforts and efficient execution to meet external program metrics. Actively counsel leaders and stakeholders on needs and opportunities to gain support for and participation in activities.

  • Develop and execute programs and content that assist in the marketing and positioning of the new business as a leading provider of products and solutions.

  • Develop and execute impactful employee communications plans and activities. Counsel business leadership team on communications needs and planning.

  • Develop and execute impactful executive communications strategy, including town halls and content needs (speeches, emails, presentations, etc.).

  • Write/edit content such as messaging/talking points, Q&As, briefing documents, holding statements, story pitches, presentations, etc. Ensure content and materials are high-quality, accurate, appropriate in tone and messaging, and support the company's key priorities.

  • Develop and advance a visibility platform that includes speaking, media, and social engagements to drive thought leadership.

  • Manage the business's digital presence (intranet, external site, social media) developing compelling stories and content.

  • Develop a thoughtful and measurable global tradeshows and events plan and successfully execute.

  • Develop and execute a public relations plan. Serve as primary media contact for industry and local media. Monitor market news/trends to recommend earned media opportunities that enhance market position. Prepare executives for interviews and facilitate engagements. Oversee and write content for news releases and Q&As and manage approvals. Serve as business spokesperson.

  • Manage crisis event preparation and management and serve as primary point of contact on crisis communications.

  • Manage, plan, and track a long-range and annual operating plan.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree; preferably in English, Journalism, Communications, or Marketing.

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • 15 years in marketing, communications, or public relations field.

  • 5 years of business communications.

  • 3 years of people management.
