Job Description

Albemarle Corporation is currently seeking a Research and Technology Program Manager. This position will be based at our global Process Development Center (PDC) in Baton Rouge and will play a visible and key role in our GBU growth strategy. The role will drive the mineral resources strategy including ownership and continual improvement of reservoir modelling and engineering tools. The role will interface routinely with R&T, manufacturing operations, planning, and business functions. The role will also own and drive major process technology development and scale up programs as time allows.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Ownership of reserves modelling tools for Albemarle's reserves in the Smackover formation, including annual maintenance of the model and providing guidance around key programs related to brine production, including well drilling and brine infrastructure upgrades.

  • Assist in the annual and long range production planning for bromine in Magnolia.

  • Become an SME in terms of resource modelling and brinefield operations from the reservoir to the plant.

  • Collaborate with chemists and other engineers/scientists to scale up a variety of bromine and derivative production processes from bench to pilot to commercial scale and to select the optimal process technology for each process step.

  • Analyze existing process problems and define robust and innovative solutions with appropriate oversight.

  • Be a key member of commissioning and startup team for new project installations.

  • Participate in troubleshooting of significant process issues, as needed.

  • Actively contributing to the innovation and ideation process through the development and justification of new project proposals.

  • Providing technical support to specific manufacturing areas.

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

  • Education: BS in Chemical Engineering with 10+ years' experience, MS in Chemical Engineering with 7+ years' experience or a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with 4+ years' experience.

  • Strong safety mindset.

  • Strong command of chemical engineering fundamentals.

  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills.

  • Initiative, creativity, and problem solving abilities.

  • Excellent written, verbal, computer, and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in mathematical modelling of processes.

  • Exposure/experience with bulk brine/water processing, reservoir engineering, oil/gas upstream production, and/or natural resource management.

  • Willingness to periodically travel for domestic and international project assignments.
