Job Description

Geosyntec is seeking an Early-Career Environmental Engineer to join our team in Houston, Texas. We are searching for motivated professionals to support and lead projects involved in soil and groundwater remediation, vapor intrusion, due diligence, environmental permitting and compliance, waste permitting, and other exciting environmental issues. Our ideal candidate is someone eager to develop their experience related to data analysis, project management, regulatory understanding, and technical report writing, while also building the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Provide technical and task management support for site investigation and remediation projects;
  • Prepare and manage technical reports such as Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs); Spill, Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans; Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs); Vapor Intrusion (VI) assessments; and complete permit applications and documents associated with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) industrial and hazardous waste facilities;
  • Prepare and implement environmental investigation work plans and provide technical support on a variety of environmental projects;
  • Manage and perform surface and subsurface investigations including drilling, geologic/geotechnical logging, and environmental media sampling (groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment, air/vapor, and waste);
  • Review and research regulatory topics, along with determining regulatory applicability to processes and problems;
  • Participate in business development activities and begin to establish a consulting practice. Interact with senior Geosyntec staff to meet task, schedule, and budget requirements; and
  • Support client opportunities and proposal preparation, and gain increasing responsibility with project tasks through training provided by Geosyntec and by working with senior staff and management.

Here are some other things you should know about this position:

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 50%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 25%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, such as civil or environmental engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in engineering. (preferred)
  • Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification or the ability to obtain certification. (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years of directly related field experience in environmental engineering, preferably in a consulting environment. (required)
  • Experience with soil and groundwater remediation. (required)
  • Experience with environmental regulations and compliance. (preferred)
  • Prior experience in environmental consulting. (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of state and federal environmental regulatory framework. (required)
  • Strong technical writing, project management, and communication skills. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
