Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator or Designee the Research Associate performs a variety of complex research experiments.

Moderately strong knowledge and skill sets and experience in AAV vector creation and extensive characterization, and large-scale viral vector manufacturing are essential.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Perform complex laboratory experiments
  • Specifically, following Standard Operation Procedures, perform all processes and procedures required for high quality large scale viral vector Upstream production, downstream processing, followed by viral vector purification, formulation, aliquoting, QC testing, shipment or temporary storage of large-scale viral vector lots.
  • Develop, validate and perform series of assays (digital PCR, silver stained SDS gel electrophoresis, endotoxin, plaque assay, TCID 50 titration, etc) for quality control testing and reporting of all large viral vectors produced at the Core.
  • Generate and fill in all specifics on the product release form for every vector production lot.
  • Perform design, molecular cloning, restriction mapping and sequencing analysis of all viral vector constructs created by the core
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of research experiments
  • Prepare characterize and maintain working cell banks for viral vector production.
  • Interpret data to form conclusions and decide on and plan the next experiments to be done with a high degree of independence
  • Write standard operating procedures schedule work analyze data maintain accurate records and write reports
  • Compile and analyze data. Perform computations using image analysis software spreadsheets graphing and curve fitting software
  • May modify protocols and be responsible for a single independent research project
  • May assist with budget and/or operational aspects of grant and contract proposals
  • Assist in writing the text of scientific publications and grants. Review literature
  • Train new laboratory personnel students and collaborators
  • Comply with all safety and infection control standards
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years relevant research experience and manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Strong ability to analyze complex visual data in a quantitative and objective manner
  • Judgment and action skills required to solve commonly encountered problems
Additional Information

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Individual must have 5+ years experience in viral vector core research/production.
