Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Industrial Architectural Engineer with experience in leading large scale and complex projects covering a wide range and sizes of industrial type applications; Air Separation Units (ASU), Hydrogen Processing Units, Process Gases & Gasification Units, LNG facilities, and Technology improvements. We provide support and liaison to global manufacturing facilities and construction sites.

The purpose of this role is to integrate or align the facility and building requirements determined by Process Safety, Local Code, Industry Practices, and property Risk Insurers to accurately incorporate the requirements into tangible and cost effective Civil-Structural-Architectural design packages and/or vendor specifications.

The role of this position is a key leadership role and being responsible for the daily coordination and oversight of a 3rd party EP team during the FEED or conceptual phase of a project. The roles and responsibilities will also include oversight of results built by the Air Products' Detailed Engineering & Design (DED) execution centers located in the AP India Pune and Vadodara offices as well as Local Design Institutes (LDIs) in China. Travel to India and China is required.

The applicant must be well versed in industrial metal buildings and occupied buildings associated with the Oil & Gas industry integrated with operating equipment & machinery, piping systems, and utilities to increase efficiency and decrease costs. The design of facility buildings must adhere to industrial ventilation requirements for the safe operation of equipment within occupied and non-occupied enclosures.

Working knowledge of hazardous area provisions and occupancy classification of common industrial codes is vital. Evaluating area for safe egress requirements from open spaces as well as building and occupied enclosures. Knowledge of alarm & monitoring systems, plumbing, lighting, HVAC, and control systems is also highly preferred.

Working knowledge of fire protection systems, fire stops & dampers, shut-off systems, fire wall requirements in compliance with industry code. The Industrial Architect will align with multiple functions including Civil-Structural, Process Safety, Piping & Layout, Mechanical, HVAC, Electrical & Instrumentation etc.

Liaison with Project Management, Operations, Manufacturing, Transportation, and Construction teams is required.Principal accountabilities:
  • Review and develop project scope and execution strategies, including developing multicenter execution strategies involving other Air Products regions and offices and Adherences detailed below.
  • Design for buildings, design criteria, and design concepts.
  • Contract specification, standards, and other contract documents.
  • Deliverable list(s).
  • Ensure alignment to facility requirements from Process Safety and Fire Prevention Engineer. Assist Process Safety team to evaluate the Plot Plan and advise on safe, reliable, and cost effective tangible construction strategies.
  • Manage Schedule of Deliverable check-points
  • Develop project building concepts and quantities.
  • Develop and manage a building matrix.
  • Develop and manage Score Card Checking Management.
  • Perform Progress assessment / metrics.
  • Apply Management of Change
  • Perform Checking and Approval process
  • Documentation control and record retention
  • Review of Detailed Engineering Design deliverables produced in our Indian Engineering & Design Center. Work with India DED center personnel in India to align on deliverables, deliverables quality and content, and timing of issuance. Alignment will include providing specific guidance, go-bys, and prescriptive instructions. Routine travel to India offices in Pune and Vadodara will be required.
  • Review conformance of deliverables with project specifications, standards, and contract documents.
  • PE stamping of Architectural / Structural Engineering or Architectural stamping when required.
  • EPC Oversight: Assist to create & implement oversight strategies of EPC scope execution and deliverables.
  • Attend project & group meetings.
  • Can interface efficiently with other fields and Project Engineering Management
Minimum requirements and qualifications:
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Structural or Architectural / Structural Engineering.
  • PE licensed engineer, Architect Engineer, or licensed Architect or in progress.
  • 12+ years of engineering experience with the following:
  • Design and execution of industrial buildings located in oil & gas plants from concept to construction.
  • Architectural layout for buildings to serve the required purpose.
  • Structural steel proficiency in rigid-frame, connections, and cold formed design. Industrial building design and concepts - site built and modularization
  • Industrial ventilation and room pressurization for hazardous areas.
  • Noise abatement.
  • Lighting concepts
  • Hazardous area Plot Plan review, occupancy classification review, code assessment, and tangible application.
  • Active and passive fire protection concepts
  • Material capability and selection.
  • Egress requirements
  • Basics of Blast Resistant Design and concepts
  • Monitoring & detection, alarms, shut-off, control systems, and public address know-how.
  • Hazardous spill containment and management.
  • Fire walls design and concepts
  • Fire Proofing and fire stops
  • Writing performance specifications and standards.
  • 3+ years as a Lead Engineer or Team Lead
  • Proven leadership work experience from an EPC and EPCM company.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership experience and skills including communicating with global teams.
  • Experience in Refinery / Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, or power industry.
  • Experience in building concepts and layouts for site built and modular buildings of various sizes and services. Blast resistant design of buildings a plus.
  • Proficient in using structural analysis modeling software such as RISA or STAAD.
  • Knowledgeable in Blast Resistant Design requirements.
  • Proficient of industry accepted codes: IBC, IFC, IPC, IRC, IMC, ASCE 7, AISC Steel Construction Manual, AWS, NFPA 67, NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 70, MBMA, ACGIH
