What you will be responsible for:

BASIC PURPOSE:

The Senior Network Engineer is a senior technical resource in Data Communications and is responsible for the implementation and effective and efficient maintenance of related technologies. Defines, designs and implements network communications and solutions, sometimes directing the work of less-experienced staff. Coordinates activities with other system areas and vendors, and contributes to network system planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing and servicing. Provides network systems administration support to users. In addition, this individual has advanced knowledge of Information Technology at large, with an understanding of related disciplines and how they interoperate. The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for leading implementation and troubleshooting efforts and aiding in design efforts.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as senior subject matter expert in the field of Data Communications, maintaining a strong understanding of the field and its related technologies.
  • Stays abreast of current network technologies.
  • Provides technical support to ensure the ongoing efficient and reliable operations of related MFS information systems.
  • Troubleshoots complex network outages.
  • Proactively develops and maintains strong knowledge of MFS information systems and their related components, and makes recommendations to improve the reliability, scalability, performance, or security of these systems as appropriate.
  • Leverages technology to automate manual tasks, and seeks to improve efficiency wherever practicable and appropriate.
  • Makes recommendations for process improvements.
  • Develops, enforces and maintains MFS Information Security controls, procedures, and standards.
  • Receives broad goals and overall objectives from Management and assists in establishing and implementing the methods to attain them.
  • Accountable for meeting assigned project objectives including timelines and budgeting.
  • Works on the most complex projects and provides innovative suggestions for solutions.
  • Serve as technical mentor to other members of the team.
  • Collaborates with other IT and business groups, readily sharing information with others.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related technical field.
  • Seven or more years of related Information Technology experience, with combined focus in some of the following: LAN/WAN and remote office operations, comprehensive experience with Cisco routers/switches, Network management platforms ,network load balancing platforms, network patching and network cross-connect best practices and inventory control, designing and building large data center networks.
  • Financial services industry experience a plus.
  • Experience in mitigating network security issues to assist in working with other technical teams on security issues.
  • Strong subject matter expertise in the field, with familiarity with other related Information Technologies.
  • Solid understanding of Systems Development Life Cycle models.
  • Strong PC technical skills such as troubleshooting, general networking, and technology knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact, communicate, build relationships, and negotiate well with members of team and senior management. Makes effective presentations.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, writing, and organizational skills; ability to work effectively under pressure and in 24/7 mode.
  • Demonstrates solid financial skills.

Technical knowledge developed in several of the following disciplines:

  • Cisco certifications or equivalent technical engineering qualification required.
  • Network Firewall technology
  • Network IDS/IPS Security technology
  • MS Active Directory
  • TCP/IP and DNS/DHCP
  • VPN networks and mobile end user support
  • Interface with Global carriers to implement data solutions.
  • Cisco routing/switching (CATOS, IOS) and protocols: (BGP, IPSEC, SMTP, SNMP and OSPF)
  • VoIP operations, WAN operations experience, and Wireless networking experience.
  • QoS & MPLS technologies.
