Job Description

The Radiological Controls Technician (RCT) position offers hands-on experience in an industrial work environment including the performance of radiological surveys in support of radiological work evolutions, and response to unexpected conditions. An RCT maintains and operates radiation measuring equipment; conducts radiological surveys and performs radiological sampling; interprets survey and sample data; and can document survey and sample data. The RCT must uphold the radiological standards during the performance of work and use resources efficiently. An RCT will carry out independent responsibilities, work as a team with group performing work, and will demonstrate leadership when carrying out radiological work tasks.

Required Skills

Intermediate Applied Technology Technician:

• Qualified Radiological Controls Technician (RCT); or
• High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience; or
• Associate degree in a related field or Journeyman's Papers and a minimum of three years of relevant experience; or
• Bachelor degree in related field

Senior Applied Technology Technician:

• Qualified Radiological Controls Technician (RCT) and
• High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience; or
• Associate degree in a related field or Journeyman's Papers and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; or
• Bachelor degree in related field and a minimum of two years of relevant experience

Basic Required Skills:

• Must be able to gain medical qualification to wear respiratory equipment without limitations in support of project work objectives
• Must be able to work in both office and construction site environments, including walking, standing, kneeling, climbing and be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to work overtime as required
• Must be able to perform administrative functions utilizing standard offices suite products including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
• Must be able to demonstrate skills in performing mathematical calculations, including algebra
• Strong attention to detail and capability of interpreting and understanding work procedures.
• Qualified technicians will support and participate in a continuing training program to maintain and improve their level of knowledge
• Candidates at a Senior level will be expected to utilize their extensive experience to mentor less experienced technicians.

Necessary Qualifications:

• If not already completed, the successful candidate will be required to attend and complete (travel, lodging and per diem provided by the company) a 22-week course at the Radiological Controls Technician Qualification School (RCTQS) in Norfolk, Virginia

Preferred Skills

• Prior experience with commercial or naval radiological applications is preferred.
• Previous Naval Nuclear radiological training/experience as an Engineering Laboratory Technician (ELT) or RCTQS graduate.
• Previous emergency response training, including the use of personal protective and respiratory equipment.
• 2 years of site (Kesselring) radiological controls experience
