Job Description

Covenant Health is seeking a Full Time, Night Medical Technologist with the Lab Svcs LRMC Department at Covenant Health System.

Job Summary:

Under direction of the Section Supervisor, the Medical Technologist employs professional knowledge and judgment to perform technical, physical, clerical and quality assurance functions in the department.

Essential Function:

*

Performs various chemical, microscopic, morphologic and other tests as assigned, independently, and in accordance with established procedures and policies.

*

Evaluates the validity of results, accurately records and reports results.

*

Performs quality control, standardization curves, calibration, and equipment maintenance procedures as directed; recognizes and reports problems and documents corrective action.

*

Responsible for the completion of all procedures scheduled during the work shift, and for maintaining a clean, neat and organized work area.

*

Performs various technical and clerical tasks related to receiving, processing, and instrument interfaces related to departmental operating functions.

*

Effectively uses all computer equipment, programs, and instrument interfaces related to departmental operating functions.

*

Maintains required records and prepares various reports, as requested.

Outreach Lab Services:

* Coordinates scheduling and staffing for both IP and OP areas.

* Performs duties of a lab assistants (Central Processing and Phlebotomy) when necessary.

* Consistently demonstrates and encourages teamwork, professionalism, courtesy and respect to others.

* Leads day to day operations for lab assistants in both IP and OP areas.

* Responsible for maintaining supplies/inventory and documentation.

* Adheres to all safety regulations and ensures departmental compliance (includes CAP Specimen collection).

* Relays test results accurately.

* Develop, administers and maintain employee training materials and schedules to ensure employee competencies in both phlebotomy and Central processing duties.

* Troubleshooting and researching of lab process related to collection of specimen, order entry and billing.

* Other duties:

Under the supervision of section leader perform urinalysis testing, blood release in Hematology, chemistry and Blood Bank, Assist in the suet up of microbiology cultures and performs limited testing.

* Proficient in EMR and LIS systems.

* Phlebotomy:

Maintains records and procedures to comply with CAP, JCAHO and other regulating agencies.

Maintains standards of Phlebotomy through scheduled instruction and training.

Central Processing/Data Entry/Reception.

Coordinates reception and processing of patients, specimens and reports.

Resolves errors related to order entry and billing.

Minimum Position Requeirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science or equivalent science.Or equivalent educ/experience.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 1 year Work experience in a clinical laboratory, preferably in a hospital setting.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certification by the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology preferred.
  • Outreach Lab Services: Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
