Job Summary

There is an opening for a research Engineer in , which focus on translating diffuse optics from laboratory to clinical use. Dr. Busch's current projects primarily focus on monitoring the central nervous system in critically ill patients. Duties may include instrumentation design and construction, modeling light transport in tissue, and analyzing complex time series data in the context of diffuse optical and correlation spectroscopies. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical translational work and data analysis.

Preferred Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, physics, or optics and two (2) years year related experience
  • Master's degree in biomedical engineering, physics, or optics

  • Data processing (Matlab)
Job Duties

Performs combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties:

  • Analyzes data collected during research and clinical trials.
  • Writes and modifies computer programs and scripts for data collection and analysis.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of one or more parts of research project.
  • Devises new approaches to problems encountered: sets up, maintains, and modifies equipment and experiments.
  • Supervises and assists in collection and preparation of data specification analysis.
  • Generates result reports for research projects and clinical trials.
  • Determines additional equipment required for research projects and ensures computability with existing machinery.
  • Designs, builds, and modifies measurement devices and equipment hardware used for data collection and analysis.
  • Supervises installation and operation of equipment, provides technicians and/or machinists with clear, concise drawings for equipment that is to be fabricated.
  • Assists in preparation and presentation of written proposals, reports, and manuscripts for publication as required.
  • Performs other duties as directed or required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Work requires thorough knowledge of electronic test equipment, biomedical recording equipment, microprocessor-based instruments, and like.
  • Work requires verbal, computer, and other technical skills.
  • Work requires skill to fabricate adapters, mounts, etc.
  • Work requires ability to skillfully operate manual hand and power tools.
  • Work requires skill to write and modify computer software.
  • Work requires ability to multitask.
  • Work requires wide range of physical activities.
