Editor Technician

Full-Time, Regular

Reports to: Sr Director, PC Ops and Production

We are looking to hire an Editor Technician to Perform on a daily, ongoing basis editing in support of the PBS NewsHour. In this role you will perform other duties as may be assigned in accordance with union jurisdiction. This position is covered by the IBEW union contract.

In an average week, you can expect to:

  • Editing video (AVID) for the PBS NewsHour Weekend production.
  • Collaborate with NewsHour producers to deliver video packages for insertion into the PBS NewsHour.
  • The ability to work under intense, live-network pressure.
  • Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.

What success looks like:

  • After 60 days, the successful candidate will have established a comfortable and functional remote working environment at home as a full-time editor for the PBS NewsHour Weekend program. All monitoring, connectivity and communication technologies deployed to support the editor will be fully functioning and reliable. The editor-candidate will be comfortable with required workflows and communication protocols.
  • After 120 days the successful candidate will have established a reputation as a reliable professional and trusted member of the editing team.

You must have:

  • Knowledge of and experience with AVID editing platforms and editing in collaboration with producers under intense deadline pressure.
  • Knowledge of video and audio signal flow and monitoring to maintain the highest technical standards in compliance with FCC, PBS Network and Company production policy.
  • Working knowledge of routing switchers, transmission, file-based signal flow and media asset management systems.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work on different assignments on a daily, or even hourly basis, and to work long and sometimes irregular shifts, and work holidays and weekends as necessary.

You should have:

  • Minimum five years of experience as an AVID editor at a network or local station
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
