Sr Coordinating Broadcast Producer, Washington Week, Weekend NewsHour

Full-time, Regular

Reports to: Executive Producer, Washington Week, Weekend NewsHour

ABOUT THE ROLE

As our Sr Coordinating Broadcast Producer, Washington Week, Weekend NewsHour, you'll manage the smooth and timely execution of elements needed by the control room of the Friday night live news and public affairs program, Washington Week (WW), as well as the live broadcast of the Weekend NewsHour on Saturdays and Sundays. You'll manage scripts, broadcast elements and all related factors from early planning, through the live broadcast. During your weekday shifts, you'll work with the broadcast team on the weekday PBS NewsHour broadcast.

The regular schedule for this role will be Wednesday through Sunday.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

You will familiarize yourself with the hour to hour functions of the broadcast production schedule. You will work immediately on communicating clearly across the newsroom and control room to emphasize your role as a key driver of the broadcast. You will communicate with the Executive Producer and anchor and senior team about the tone and style of the writing of pages. You will look for opportunities to adjust or improve our daily broadcast workflow and coordination with digital. You will get to know your direct reports and lead efforts at recruitment for any openings.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Not only will you master the daily production of the broadcast, but you will bring fresh insight into how we might adjust or improve our workflow. You will gain the respect and trust of full staff, in the studio and control room, in the field and throughout the newsroom. You will gain the respect and trust of the News Assistants and fellows program and play a key role in recruiting and mentoring. You will bring editorial ideas and suggestions to meetings for the kinds of stories we should cover on the NewsHour and how to execute them with our resources.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • 10 years of experience in a variety of newsroom roles. Experience with a national news outlet is a plus.
  • Experience field producing a variety of stories, day of air news production in breaking news circumstances, writing, and/or video and social production for digital news platforms.
  • Experience managing staff.
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues in various positions and levels effectively.

Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
