Senior Editor, Digital - PBS NewsHour

ABOUT THE ROLE
In this role, you'll be part of the senior editorial team for the PBS NewsHour as the lead editorial decision maker and manager for digital coverage and production around Washington Week and NewsHour Weekend and any related news coverage on pbs.org/newshour and associated platforms. Part of this role also includes supporting big-picture planning and coverage alongside our weekday team. You'll supervisor a small team of producers dedicated to Washington Week and weekend coverage, and collaborate with other senior editors on strategy and development of digital content, projects and products during the week. You also will work closely with the senior leadership of Washington Week and PBS NewsHour broadcast to coordinate coverage and expand the audience reach across all potential platforms. This is a leadership position on an innovative digital team that is expanding and looking for a creative thinker with strong journalistic skills and editorial integrity.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
You'll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You'll establish key relationships with your peers, while being exposed to executives through participation in editorial planning meetings. You'll identify future stories of likely interest to our existing and potential audience and coordinate our forward planning workflow, with an eye toward maximizing effective use of resources and creating distinctive, brand consistent content.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You have sound and swift editorial judgement and can manage breaking news with resources big and small. You bring a vibrancy and terrific ideas to pitch and senior leadership meetings. You are an excellent communicator and coordinate with a variety of teams on different schedules and time zones to ensure continuity of coverage, setting everyone up for success. Your ability to seamlessly jump from project to project will enable you to flourish and experiment with the look and feel of digital news. You've developed trust with executive leadership. You understand how to manage and develop staff and help them produce their best work.
