Associate Producer/Editor, Social Media, Washington Week, NewsHour Weekend

Full-time, Exempt

Reports to: Social Media Producer/Coordinator

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a member of our multiplatform newsroom, the Associate Producer/Editor, Social Media will play a leading role in producing, managing and implementing content for Washington Week and PBS NewsHour Weekend's social media strategy and outreach. The Associate Producer/Editor, Social Media will oversee both weekend shows' social media editorial calendar and manage the sharing of reporting from broadcast and online across social media platforms. This position will explore new channels for future engagement, helping to grow Washington Week's social media following and engaged communities. When not focused on Washington Week and NewsHour Weekend, this position will support weekday publishing on the NewsHour social media accounts.

This position requires weekend work.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

You'll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You'll learn our fast-paced work style while establishing key relationships with colleagues.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

You're independently overseeing the processing and posting of social media content on the PBS NewsHour and Washington Week accounts. You're regularly live streaming breaking news video on social platforms and our website. You're pitching and producing NewsHour social media and digital stories within our editorial guidelines and graphics style. You've demonstrated that during breaking news situations and special events, you can be counted on to manage an accurate and timely flow of information to NewsHour's and Washington Week's followers, readers, viewers and listeners. You're managing the social media accounts for Washington Week and NewsHour with a strong editorial eye.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • A track record of responsibly managing social media platforms for an objective news organization.
  • A deep curiosity about the evolution of social media in the news industry.
  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills, including familiarity with AP style.
  • Well informed in a wide range of areas, including politics, economics, foreign affairs, arts, health, science and education.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple deadlines.
  • Familiarity with social video editing.
  • Ability to work independently and a willingness to learn new skills as needed.
  • Experience as a team player, working in collaboration with other members of the social media team and handling multiple assignments under tight deadline pressure.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to be flexible with schedule and assignments.
