The Investment Solutions Group (ISG) is responsible for investment thought leadership and client consulting projects across all channels and regions.

Thought leadership is generated within ISG by working with our investment teams globally to bring the best thinking from across the firm to our distribution teams and clients. ISG subject matter experts specialize in Capital Markets, Equities, Fixed Income, Multi Asset, Retirement and Sustainability issues and are responsible for publishing and communicating our thought leadership to distribution teams and directly to clients.

Consulting projects that are specific to clients can vary significantly and range from asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk decomposition/stress testing, benchmarking and custom research, to name a few. Projects typically involve research using data sets and tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet, BARRA, etc., developing conclusions and recommendations and typically culminate in a series of client presentations of the results.

The Associate Analyst will work with senior members of the ISG to support both thought leadership and client consulting projects, as well as investment and distribution teams. Analysts will have exposure to all topic areas and senior ISG subject matter experts and may develop a partial specialization over time. The role offers a unique opportunity to broaden knowledge of capital markets through challenging technical work, exposure to the latest in MFS's investment thinking while also providing an opportunity to develop internal communication and client facing presentation skills.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Work with the ISG and MFS investment teams to support research, development of thought leadership and creation of presentations and other client-facing collateral to highlight trends and themes across global capital markets.
  • Work in close coordination with members of the ISG and distribution colleagues on a wide array of client projects including asset allocation, risk analysis, portfolio structuring, and stress testing of multi-asset portfolios.
  • Leverage problem solving techniques and critical thinking in order to draw conclusions and develop client-ready materials that showcase the firm's investment insights.
  • Analyze industry trends and investment themes and demonstrate understanding of critical client issues including governance, investment policy and implementation issues.
  • Assist other teams within the Investment Solutions Group and perform additional duties as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, economics, finance or related field; progress towards CFA preferred.
  • 3+ years of previous financial services or analytical experience.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to distill and communicate complex topics into deliverables that are geared towards a wide array of audience sophistication.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other team members, as well as manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Effective communication skills are critical.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in technical subject matter related to investments, asset classes and global capital markets.
  • Ability to perform complex quantitative analysis and learn new quantitative tools and techniques. Excellent Excel skills including the ability to design and develop models.
  • Experience with some or all of the following tools is preferred: FactSet, optimization software, BarraOne, Bloomberg, Morningstar, Haver. Extensive experience with Microsoft Office is required.
