Under the general direction of the Operations Training Manager, the Simulator Software Engineer develops and modifies simulation models and system graphics, maintains simulator databases, and upgrades software and hardware for nuclear simulation applications and the Operations Training simulator facility.

Job Description
Key Roles & Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent:
- Identifies and corrects software discrepancies on simulator models and instructor applications.
- Interfaces with simulator instructors and plant operators for problem resolution and simulator performance improvement.
- Develops and maintains documentation for simulator modifications and maintenance procedures.
- Provides daily simulator operational support in the form of timely software updates, configuration changes, evaluation of simulator performance, and system maintenance.
- Manages software and hardware projects, including developing cost justifications and technical requirements for large, complex technical projects.
- Performs reviews and technical evaluations of vendor proposals.
- Performs reactor core model adjustments and testing in accordance with ANSI 3.5 requirements.
- Serves on plant technical teams tasked with modifying plant systems or improving plant performance (typically where simulator modeling is used as a tool for plant performance improvement).
- Provides simulator support to Operations Training staff by developing tools to assist with the conduct of Operator Training and Examination.
Minimum Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
- Graduated from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program, or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of PC computer systems, networks, and software applications.
- Knowledge of analytical modeling techniques and software-based algorithms.
- Knowledge of power plant systems design and operation.
- Experience with one or more of the following modeling techniques, thermal-hydraulic, heat transfer, fluid system, electrical or instrumentation and control.
- Understanding of software verification and validation techniques.
- Ability to manage highly technical projects and provide leadership to a technical team.
- Ability to work effectively within a small, specialized team of individuals.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
- Working knowledge of modern simulator real-time system design.
- Ability to use information from plant system and elementary drawings to build advanced software models of plant systems and processes.
- Knowledge of simulator facility design and operating requirements.
- Knowledge of PWR plant systems and transient analysis.
- Knowledge of reactor core simulation equations and reactor operation.
- Understanding of nuclear regulations and industry standards related to operator training, software development, and simulation.
- Familiar with the role of simulation in operator training and plant support.
- Familiarity with programming languages (C++, C#, Visual Basic, FORTRAN, etc...)
- Version control software experience (GIT, Subversion, CVS, etc...)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to produce high-quality results within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work.
- Ability to work as part of a team and take personal responsibility for assigned work.
- Ability to adapt to changing processes, priorities, and work environments.
In order to meet the requirements of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), candidates located at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant will be required to undergo an extensive background screening process that is separate from the Vistra/Luminant screening process.
