THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Director of Foundation Relations, the Development Officer, Foundation Relations will be responsible for coordinating and tracking all pre-and post-grant foundation award activities. Additionally, the Development Officer will engage in prospect research, proposal development, stewardship tasks, and data analytics work related to foundation relations activities across the Council.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with the Vice President of Development and Director of Foundation Relations to develop and enhance the Council’s prospecting model by regularly reviewing resources for public and private funding, including grant opportunities.
  • Gain understanding of the Council’s work, research prospective funders and RFPs for mission “fit,” and create recommendations on paths forward.
  • Write and edit letters of inquiry and grant proposals, grant reports, acknowledgement letters, and other donor communication.
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities related to grants and ensure compliance with internal and external policies and procedures.
  • Monitor life grant reporting requirements and ensure that reports are submitted in timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date grant records and campaign activity in Salesforce, assist with developing engagement plans and tracking touch points, and administer foundation relations data dashboards/reports.
  • Develop forms, processes, procedures, and policies for the purpose of implementing a consistent grant application and management methodology.
  • Provide support at Council events approximately 3 – 4 times monthly (registration, ushering, etc.), requiring some evening and early morning hours.
  • Occasionally assist at the front desk to relieve Reception and Office Coordinator in meeting/greeting Council constituents and handling incoming calls.
  • Perform other projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2+ years’ relevant experience, preferably in a nonprofit/membership organization or foundation; grants management experience a plus.
  • Interest in non-profit development, particularly in the areas of foundation relations and grant writing/management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent spelling, grammar, and editing skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex content into persuasive, targeted content that closely follows proposal guidelines and funder guidance.
  • Keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interest in global affairs.
  • Flexible, collaborative, skilled problem-solver and self-starter.
  • Excellent computer skills, including extensive knowledge of and experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and database systems, especially Salesforce.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team; willingness to help out.
