DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking an Architectural Design Associate II to join our Baltimore (Linthicum), MD team and become an integral component of our Architecture/Engineering Practice. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual whose responsibilities will include the design and documentation for a broad range of project types. With an ongoing focus on growing Aviation, Transportation, Municipal, Federal, Department of Defense, and International project opportunities, along with market-driven diversification including Commercial, Transit, and Adaptive Re-Use, the successful candidate will work in multi-disciplinary, collaborative design teams with architects, interior designers, site/civil engineers, and building systems engineers. You must demonstrate creative problem-solving, organizational skills, and production management capabilities.

  • Prepares planning, design, and construction documents including studies, reports, sketches, schematic drawings, renderings, final contract documents, and as-built drawings
  • Creates graphics for presentation and marketing purposes
  • Along with senior architects and other design professionals, communicates with clients to establish project scope of work, building program needs, projects schedules, and project budgets
  • Work with senior architects and clients to determine functional and spatial requirements of new structure or renovation, and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time
  • Performs research pertaining to project conformance related to code, zoning, building standards, and industry practice
  • Prepares scale drawings and contract documents for construction
  • Prepares project designs and plans using computer assisted design software and equipment
  • Assist with administering procurement phase and construction phase activities, including: review bids/proposals, review construction submittals, answer Requests for Information, review pay applications, and conduct periodic on-site observation of projects under construction
  • Ability to be self-motivated and to research and troubleshoot problems as they arise
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deliverable deadlines
  • Complete work in efficient and accurate manner
  • Availability to occasionally travel to project locations

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/BA in Architecture or MS/MA in Architecture
  • 3-5 years of experience in the design and documentation of architecture projects, including well-developed skills in three-dimensional visualization and comprehensive building design
  • Requires experience in the following skills and technologies: building information modeling (BIM)/Autodesk Revit; building information modeling (BIM) and AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Requires familiarity with industry local codes, regulations, and standards governing design and construction projects
  • Experience with Department of Defense, NAVFAC, and Army Corp of Engineers projects is a plus
